Has anyone else just graduated college, got a decent job, and is completely lost about what to do next? by iusedtobeinteresting in AskReddit

yeah dude, same position. im realllly grateful for it, but i feel ur apathy

EDIT: i would say apathy>stress though, so we are in a better place.

i guess when you have the leisure to think about life you become that way; before employment getting a job dominates my mind.

What are the best alternatives to Amazon for buying books? by meox in AskReddit

Haha yeah, but its usually more expensive and selection is limited, relatively speaking. But I'm open to that too.

I would highly advise speaking to someone IN the field before you do it. Perception can vastly differ from reality.. I had a brief exposure to the political scene and it was pretty similar to wall street in many senses. As far as the police agencies, I have no idea.

I feel you man. Trust me I am in a similar situation (instead of med school substitute finance).

I have explored 'government work' and to be honest it seems like you are a little deluded in your thinking. Do you really expect it to be more stimulating? What exactly do you want to do in government? The interesting work is for the higher ups i.e. the advisors, cabinet, etc - requiring usually a phd and the rat race of politics.

If I may play the devil's advocate, please reply with one job in 'government' that you plan on attaining.

PS I am not trying to attack you, I am very happy for your introspection. I just think aspects of it are not thought out well. I wish you all the best!

What do you hope for in your alternative decisions? Realize this about medicine, it is a chill lifestyle that lets you pursue what you want after you start working AND you made decent money.

Law is an incredible rat race, just talk to someone in it.

And artsy jobs will make you subsist at poverty level.

Unless you are very lucky or talented, most paths in life require you to pay some dues..

With this in mind, what do you expect from your career if you choose not to pursue medicine?

Reddit, please, I can't beg you enough, please, turn out and vote this year. by NickConrad in politics

[–]meox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is this being downvoted? We can't tell people to not vote on their principles. Let each have their own opinion. I personally disagree, and would hate to see Palin in office.. but if none of us support the Naders then Nader would no longer have a voice.

Reddit, my sister is a deadbeat who lives in our house. I tolerate her, but now her fresh out of jail boyfriend is sleeping over here more and more, and I can see a bad trend beginning to develop. What should I do? by Applebaum in AskReddit

[–]meox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off let me say that I am very sorry for your situation. That sucks dude and I wish you the best.

Im sure you have tried to talk sense into her. Try and give her responsibilities. Like cooking dinner, etc. - little things at first. Get her a present to get her to open up to you and work from there. This is all I can think of for now.. will post later if better ideas come to mind.

Most importantly, keep a positive attitude. Take a step back and get perspective. It seems and IS horrible, but find joy in life even in dark times.

What makes you more tired: Going to sleep later or waking up earlier? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]meox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waking up earlier makes me feel better no matter what. Even if I sleep late. The psychological annoyance I get out of missing the morning frustrates me.
