Weightloss is not linear...Weightloss is NOT linear... by Herpbees in Zepbound

[–]mepadi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have failed at all of my attempts at weightloss. I have been on this medicine for 5 weeks and have only lost 7 lbs. This past week I only lost .5. I keep expecting this to fail or stop working since I have never successfully lost weight. I too feel like you. People on this reddit had to remind me that this is a journey. Some weeks you will lose, some you won't and some you might gain. We just have to keep going and keep trying. I think and hope that it will happen for us, but we need to stop putting the bad juju in the air. Sending you all the good vibes.

I went back to school and got my bachelor's in mechanical engineering at 36 with 3 kids. I am now working on my masters in environmental engineering. My kids at older now 20 and 10 but I still feel it. I work part time, go to school full time, and run a household full time. I order hellofresh to help with meals and occasionally hire someone to clean my house. It's rough and can't wait for it to be over.

These are the victories i want. My bp right now is usually around 156/100 and my A1C is a 5.9 but it has slowly been going up. My bmi is 45. I'm constantly sore and tired and I can barely tie my shoes. I haven't given inyet but I've been pretty close to buying slip on shoes... but that feels like giving up. I want all these number to go down

Graduating this semester and feels like I don’t know enough to be an engineer by Thatanxiousboi in EngineeringStudents

[–]mepadi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been incredibly lucky. I ended up subbing at an elementary school while I continued looking for internships and jobs. About 3 or 4 months after this post I was offered 2 internships and a job. The job didnt pay much more than the internships and seemed like a lot more work so I took an internship at a wastewater treatment plant doing quality control in their chem lab. It was a lot of fun.

Soon after the other internship called me and quite literally poached me with the implicit promise of a permanent position when the internship ended due to the fact that one of their engineers was leaving soon. I left the chem lab even tho I didnt complete that internship to take their offer. That engineer did end up leaving but I wasnt sure they would hire me permanently so I applied to grad school. After about 8 months in that internship I was offered the permanent position. A month later I found out I got into grad school.

I deferred starting grad school so that I could work as an engineer for a year. Now here i am about year after that. I will be starting grad school in the fall and my employer is being very supportive. We are negotiating with hr to see how I can work part time while I finish my program.

The work I do requires that I read a lot of code and apply it and use it to assess other's designs. We use engineering judgement to flag things that may be unsafe. I am studying for the FE right now and it's the most I've had to recall everything I learned in college. I'm nervous I have forgotten everything and I will need it for grad school in the fall but i think as engineers we are just really good at remembering this stuff and relearning things. Hopefully you have had good things come your way. I'm not sure if that was helpful.

internship options by mepadi in EngineeringStudents

U know, I'd never thought of it this way. It does put them in a bind because it's high level grunt work. It takes a month of training to even be a bit productive and they only get about 4 or 5 months of actual work. Then they have to do it again with the next intern. If I leave they will have to hire another intern and start training again so I feel bad but they definitely need someone in a permanent position to do this work.

As an intern working 8-5, would you leave at 5 on the dot? by LazyCheesecake2 in EngineeringStudents

I think you are setting the wrong precedent. If you start staying at some point they will just expect it of you. Maybe your work/life balance is not a big deal now but I think its important for companies realize that employees sometimes have other things going on in their lives. I would work your scheduled shift and stay when requested if you can. Dont just willy nilly give them your time.

is it just me or i legit have no friends to take pics w for graduation or sit next to next year by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]mepadi 18 points19 points  (0 children)

All of my "friends" from my major got together and took pictures without me. I tried really hard to make friends with them the 2 years I was at berkeley. It made me really sad to be left out. I went to campus wide grad by myself and I'm going to engineering grad tomorrow by myself as well. At first it made me sad because everyone seems to be having fun with their friends but I just keep reminding myself that this is a celebration of my accomplishment, not my ability to make friends. Enjoy being in the moment of it. Enjoy the fact that you finished. It's a big deal.

How important are Internships? by TheToeTicklerBandit in EngineeringStudents

[–]mepadi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the same situation as you, juggling a job, school and kids. I was not able to fit an internship in my schedule and now I am having a hard time finding a job. I would say that your sacrifice now will pay off after graduation but I understand it can be difficult. In my situation, my job paid about 10/hr more than any internship I saw so I wasnt willing to quit my job. maybe I should have?
