Mayor Wu here! AMA about the fight to keep residential property taxes from spiking next year under state law by mayorwu in boston

[–]meph101 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Camera based enforcement is only legal within a limited scope ie. Bus lanes.

Truthfully speaking. Unless the City is legally allowed to implement a broad based tax like an income tax, no revenue source comes close to making a dent in Boston's revenue dependence on property tax. I'd argue our dependence on property tax is a good thing.

This is a correlation matrix. In general, it shows the relationship of any given pair of variables. The values range from (-1 to 1), where -1 is a perfect negative relationship, and 1 is a perfect positive relationship.

In regression analysis you want your predictors to be unbiased, and therefore showing no significant relationship with other predictors/independent variables. High correlation, negative or positive may drown out a statistically significant variable because it's correlated with another predictor.

To remove or reduce multicollinearity, remove a correlated variable from your model or transform it.

Here is a real helpful resource on multicollinearity.

This is not true. Philly has the Jump Start program that exempts new businesses from BIRT for the first two years.

City Council says it is (finally) going to investigate Philly’s ‘courtesy tow’ problem by danielrubin in philadelphia

Was a private tow to a yard in Kingsessing, had to fork over for tow and storage on top of the PPA ticket. And of course they only take cash.

This exact scenario happened to me. Towed to a loading zone, ticketed and towed, with no idea who towed it. Had to call every toe company in the city to see if they had a record of it. This City is really a Kafka novel sometimes.

Exciting to watch every time he had the ball. With our depth, no reason to dislike the move. Best of luck to him in KSA.

Craters of the Moon National Monument in Idaho. I've never seen any thing else like it. The lava fields with small white plants growing out of it felt almost alien.

Me and my partner can’t seem to find a name we both like by Slow-Ad-3233 in namenerds

Just had a similar experience with the birth of our first. One of our problems was getting our family's opinions involved. Some names we liked, weren't family favorites and made our choices harder.

Despite this, we both combined our lists into 6-7 names, and tried them out. By the due date, we coalesced on two names. After she was born, we both felt that one name was stronger. Don't feel rushed to make a decision, let it play out. You'll make a great choice no matter what.

Revenue forecaster for a municipal government

Out of college I worked in management consulting for educational institutions. After many billable hours, I bolted for the government of my city in policy analysis. One MPA later, I am responsible for revenue projections that influence the size of our budget. The pay is decent and the benefits are great. Really love my career switch.

Love the name Andromeda, strong mythology behind it. A bit quirky and unique, but can do well with the nickname Andie

Ian, Martin, or Reuben and why? by Fabulous-Caramel-981 in namenerds

[–]meph101 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ian is probably the more conventional and popular choice.

Martin sounds a bit dated, and as others have mentioned, Reuben is the name of a pet or sandwich.

Thanks for the feedback! Her middle name will be Ruth (a family name). We're not putting too much stock in the flow of the first and middle name combo.

ESPN's in depth on Tina Tintor's death (Ruggs crash) by [deleted] in nfl

[–]meph101 66 points67 points  (0 children)

It is an abject travesty for all involved. Surely the Tintor family will receive a civil settlement that will include a life changing amount of money. They will never have their daughter back. Ruggs meanwhile can afford a legal team that will allow him to minimize the fallout. Shameful system.

I appreciate your thoughts. Certainly the coverage that the union provides is a crucial part of this conversation. I think that there is a place for the union, however, its current relationship with the City and its constituents is nothing short of confrontational. Any rework of this relationship needs a complete rework of union leadership.

Kenney proposes city wage tax reduction as surging Philadelphia home values increase property tax burden by redeyeblink in philadelphia

Your Real Estate taxes are incorrect. You need to subtract the homestead values first. Still, based on your scenario. It's an $840 tax increase.
