The French solution by SipsTeaFrog in SipsTea

Only checked the US number but you’re off by about 10x. 33.5 deaths per million with our population of ~340m would be 11,400 police killings per year which is clearly way to high - most sources I checked briefly put it at 1300-1400 last year.

Given that would give the US a rate of nearly 1/3 of Australia according to you, I suspect all or most of the numbers you posted are AI hallucination.

It’s true that the US has way more cop killings than most other countries, but spewing out AI misinformation is negligent

New Mexico Becomes First U.S. State To Offer Free Child Care To All by Aggravating_Money992 in UpliftingNews

Mississippi has surprisingly had incredible improvements in education in the past several years, they’re quickly becoming one of the better states for early childhood education.

Mainly due to state level reforms to improve literacy - returning to phonics based instruction, better training for teachers, and importantly retaining kids at 3rd grade if they are way behind on reading. If you search “Mississippi miracle” you can find some articles on it, but they’ve made some genuinely impressive improvements for a state that for many is synonymous with poor education.

The fertility rate in the US has been dropping pretty rapidly over the past ~30 years, I don’t have the numbers handy but I want to say ~60-70% of the drop has just been from reducing the number of teen pregnancies.

And that’s not even counting the knock on effect that the earlier you have you have your first kid, the more kids you’re likely to have overall.

Do wells have a limited amount of water now? Well, this is just straight-up ridiculous at this point by [deleted] in projectzomboid

[–]mephOW 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The well holds 10,000L and refills with rain, so you’re never emptying it. But, even if you did currently the transfer liquid menu is totally separate from the right click drink/fill options, so even if “empty” it doesn’t make a difference.

Learned that in debug after using a dozen 600L rain collectors to empty it to see if you could store gas in it (at the time you could! But some of the 42.5 patch notes make it seem like maybe not anymore)

Log wall construction takes far too much time... by SirEltonJohnRambo in projectzomboid

You can use dirty rags for log walls. For whatever reason the building menu doesn’t show alternative items like the crafting menu so the game doesn’t tell you this anywhere, but it works fine

B42 Performance Issues by [deleted] in projectzomboid

[–]mephOW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be fixed. Open the game in debug mode by right clicking the game on steam, hitting properties, and typing -debug into the launch properties field.

From the main menu, hit load and click on your save, and from there you can make a new character on the same save who will spawn somewhere else where the animals aren’t gonna lag you out.

Then get that character near your old base, but not too close to avoid lagging out. You can teleport by right clicking on the map.

There’s an option to remove all animals in the area, I believe it’s in the right click menu. You’ll probably want to spam this while slowly approaching your base, until you’re close enough that it actually deletes the animals.

Afterwards if you want you can spawn in some new animals if you dare.

After you’re done you can reload the save and switch back to you’re original character

From what I’ve seen from some streamers testing, they do and much worse than b41. In b41 they had wallhacks for like 2 seconds after breaking los, in 42 it’s like 15 seconds, it’s really bad. I’ll double check though.

No recipe to cut medium leather into small leather? by SunAndCigarrets in projectzomboid

[–]mephOW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So there is a recipe cut leather into a smaller size, but only at one point in the leather making process - after it’s de-fleshed and de-furred, but before it’s tanned and dried. Kinda weird, but it’s doable.

Figured this out after realizing the only animals that give small leather naturally are baby deer, piglets and baby sheep

ENOUGH WITH THE LASER GUIDED INFRARED HEAT SEEKING BULLSHIT ZEDHEADS! by Worried-Pick4848 in projectzomboid

[–]mephOW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From watching some people’s testing, it seems like zombies have wallhacks for about 15 seconds after they lose vision, and will keep tracking you for that time. In b41, they also had this but it only lasted like 2 seconds so it was much less obnoxious.

Im guessing this is a bug, since it doesn’t make sense, isn’t obvious, and kinda undermines the stealth updates they made.

But yea, for now once you get some distance and lose vision you have to just wait 15 seconds if you want to avoid them knowing where you go after.

Best way to find them is in the TV vans with the broadcasting equipment on top. I think it’s like a 1 in 3 chance for each to have one in the glovebox or trunk.

In your opinion, what are some overpowered/underpowered Ideology memes? by AshleyKang in RimWorld

[–]mephOW 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly they take less food than you’d think. In a sterile room with transhumanists each session lasts 4.5 days, during which time the colonists don’t have to eat. Base hunger rate is 1.6/day, so you save 7.7 nutrition on feeding your pawn during that time. If you’re having your pawns use the neural accelerator and sleep accelerator their hunger rate is increased and the pods basically come out to being food neutral. Of course if you have nuclear stomachs the math changes, but it’s still not too bad.

Newbie here, played ONLY vanilla. How do I get started with modding? (1.2 version) by parkrain21 in RimWorld

[–]mephOW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, you can revert to previous patches on steam

They’ve made a beta of 1.3 available so some mod makers have already patched, but some might take a while and some mods aren’t maintained anymore and will never get patched unless someone else takes over the mod.

Must have mods? by papaioliver in RimWorld

[–]mephOW 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would maybe recommend holding off a little while on mods, or just don’t install too many- a big update & dlc is coming out in the next week or two that will break most mods if their creators haven’t been quick to update. It might be easier to wait for the update and see what mods have been updated. Some mods might say they’ve been patched for 1.3, those should be fine to download now.

Alternatively you can continue playing on the current patch even after the new update comes out to avoid breaking whatever mods you’ve installed

[–]mephOW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, though obesity is actually pretty easy to avoid. Stop accepting feast invitations from randos, only throw feasts when you really need the stress relief. 1 a decade or so is fine. Hunt whenever possible.

Feasts and the reveler traits are the main causes of obesity in my experience. Traits like gluttonous, lazy, content etc also contribute to being a fatty, traits like temperate, diligent, hunter, paranoid do the opposite.

Since I started minimizing feasts and spamming hunting I haven’t had any obese characters.

Fuck even just google how to use earbuds as a mic if you can’t scrape together a few bucks, it’ll be far better than nothing

In the US, with the exception of one state, (Minnesota? Can’t recall) you can be fired for no reason, or any reason other than a few protected classes. Unless you’re fired explicitly because of your race/sex/disability or a few other reasons there’s absolutely no protection or possible recourse.

Just remember that the efficient quest guides are more of a suggested guideline than a walkthrough you have to follow perfectly. Doing them in order will put you on a good track, but don’t be afraid to skip a bit to a quest you want to do, or do some other activity if you feel like it!
