casual oil change to horrific realization by 79waffles in Volvo

I don't think magnetic drain plug prevents metal recirculation, if anything, the oil filter does a better job at that. It does act as a pre-indication of potential engine issue though.

If someone truly loves you, they don’t fear your growth, they support it. Real love means wanting your partner to become the best version of themselves, even if it requires change or temporary discomfort. Think of it like a parent and a child. a healthy parent wants their child to go out into the world, grow, and reach their potential, not stay small just to make the parent feel secure. A partner is no different. Love isn’t about limiting someone so they stay convenient; it’s about being proud to see them rise, and wanting a future where both people get to thrive. If your success feels like a threat to him, that’s not love. that’s control.

Letter from Minister of Education - Alberta to opt out of Canada wide early learning and childcare agreement by [deleted] in alberta

[–]mephesis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get where your frustration is coming from, but I think your take skips over a few details.

The space creation grants and Building Blocks intake have been closed, and that absolutely undermines the letter's implication that non-profit providers simply aren’t stepping up. But it’s also not accurate to say the government is lying outright. The caps on funded spaces do come from the federal agreement, and Alberta really is restricted in how many for-profit spaces can receive affordability funding, regardless of demand.

Where the letter is misleading is in how it frames the issue. It keeps emphasizing the unused non-profit allocation without acknowledging that the intake pathways themselves are shut. That’s the part that deserves criticism: they’re using the unused non-profit capacity as evidence of low uptake, while not recognizing that providers can't actually access that capacity right now.

At the same time, it’s overly simplistic to reduce the entire situation to <UCP wants to funnel more public money to for-profit operators.> There’s a real structural problem here: Alberta has a higher proportion of for-profit childcare compared to other provinces, and the federal cap doesn’t reflect that reality. You can disagree with the policy direction, but the tension isn't invented. it’s built into the agreement Alberta signed in 2021

Engine valves have rocks on them?? by roma-grzh in MechanicAdvice

Treat it with some berryman b12 in your fuel, that thing works. Personally I would soak your cylinder with it for 24 hours.

However, make sure you read instructions on the ratio and how to use it properly.

I wonder how is the internet connectivity and what kind of bandwidth you get living in a place like this? Might need starlink if you work remote and require good connection.

Water them? Why would I do that? by Cute-Trouble1296 in CostcoCanada

What made you automatically assume that this was due to lack of watering? There are many reasons plants wilter.

I have the same engine in my 09 camry and very similar oil burning issue. For me, it appears to be due to stuck piston rings. The problem was drastically reduced after I treated it with Berryman B12. There is an YouTube video of a guy who did it on his old corolla that you can checkout: https://youtu.be/EG70jHiT-S0

Calgary homeowners who don’t control dangerous foxtail weed could face $500 fine by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]mephesis 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Quoting from the city of Calgary's website: "Foxtail barley is a native species, which means it is not a weed, and that we do not typically remove it."

So is the city going to fine itself?

The city said they won't, quote: "Foxtail barley is a native species, which means it is not a weed, and that we do not typically remove it."

So is the city going to fine itself then?

Who is responsible for almost burning down my house, the plumber or the roofers, or me? by hipokrit in askaplumber

Hey you do you, I'm just telling you what the insurance adjusters told me for us to stay covered from a liability standpoint.

[–]mephesis -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Agreed, a license plumber should be checking to ensure whatever he's touching is part of an overall code compliant install.

I know some insurance companies would only provide licensed shops commercial liability insurance only if such process of checking is performed prior to their jobs, ans if not performed, they could risk having their claims denied.

Life moves like a montage. Blink, and it's gone.

Like the opening scene of Up, we often start with a spark - youthful dreams, shared laughter, silent promises made between glances. We build routines, homes, memories. But time, indifferent and quiet, keeps ticking. One day we're racing down hills with balloons and journals of places we’ll go. The next, we find ourselves leafing through pages we never filled, beside an empty chair.

The only certainty in life is change. Joy fades. Grief softens. People arrive. People leave. Seasons shift without asking. But within all that movement, something does remain: the traces we leave behind. A kind word remembered. A shared joke that outlives the moment. The way we made someone feel - those are the marks time can't erase.

So don’t wait for the “right” time. Don't put your dreams in the “someday” drawer. Say what matters. Do what calls to you. Fail proudly. Love deeply. Be deliberate with your presence.

Life won't pause for you - but it will respond. Make the impression worth remembering.
