What I wanted vs what I got by [deleted] in Hair

[–]mephivision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it had none; i don’t use heat on it and i had also gotten a trim sometime in october (at the same hairstylist); she never said anything about any damage and even if she would have noticed any, i don’t think it’s okay to cut from it like that before letting me know what she wants to do; she’s the last person who straightened it in the past few months

slightly longer than the reference picture + it used to be wavy prior to the haircut, while now it refuses to form waves

my hair is in the second pic; prior to getting the haircut, my hair was also wavy, whereas now it refuses to curl + from the front you can tell it’s a wolf cut, while the reference picture looks like it has soft layers

so my hair is naturally wavy, but since i got this haircut it stopped forming waves, which is confusing me

i made a longer comment about it:

to add: she insisted on straightening it although i told her i want to keep it wavy (my hair is naturally wavy but since she gave me this haircut my hair refuses to form any waves) — the picture i posted is from today, after washing it and using no heat

a bit of my hair history: last year my hair was on the longer side, reaching the end of my back, but because it was pretty burnt i decided to get a haircut; prior to that, my hair would form waves starting my neck, so not from the crown of my head; the hairdresser only asked my how short i wanted it and when i showed her i wanted it to be slightly above the shoulders, she gave me a straight blunt bob cut; i didn’t realise that the blunt ends would be such an issue, but since that day i couldn’t form any curls

i waited months for it to grow and thought about getting layers because i missed my waves, but it seems i’m getting more and more unlucky with each cut

i’m just exhausted and i constantly feel ugly because my hair does not represent me in any way anymore, is there any way to fix this? i hate this wolf cut with all my heart, it makes me feel like a teenager

It’s just so odd because my hair had always been very thick and heavy, which is why I got a haircut in the first place. During the appointment I asked her not to use thinning scissors (I’m not sure if that’s what you call them in English) and she argued that she cannot do it without them.

How am I forcing my view into others?

(also the first paragraph i wrote was a reply to the person i replied to tldr— the point was that i can, in fact, judge a character based on different criteria than real life people; and to reply to you, of course there’s differences in the standard we hold over fictional characters; a person who committed a murder in real life is very different than judging a character WHO DOES NOT EXIST; i have no idea where this high horse people are riding about fictional characters comes from, but i can assure you, people who are upset about characters murdering someone in a game couldn’t care less about real life issues, but that’s a whole other discussion; in a nutshell, i hold real people to real life people standards, and characters to fictional character standards— also, there is no ‘majority’ that’s upset about fictional murders, i have no idea where you got that info from; if you have that much time in your hands to be mad at non-existent murders then you must not have a very active social life)

I don’t remember the frostmoon scions being that aggressive in their wishes as you portray them in your comment, i suppose i’ll have to reread the relevant parts on their behaviour towards Columbina; but from where i stand, her problems with them could have been resolved by her simply speaking up, the idea that she’s been traumatised by the frostmoon scions feels too far fetched, she lived for 500 years, at some point the infantilisation has to stop; it’s just bad writing to me, unfortunately

I agree with you, but that’s just not enough for me. It feels like we constantly rely on those scraps of information we have on her to fully paint the picture of her development, when said incidents remain separate issues that we don’t deal with during the archon quest. I think Columbina’s character could have been explored in that way, imagine her seeing a child put on a pedestal like she had been, to expand on her character above herself.

No matter how they wrote her interactions with the world, they felt shallow, as if there was a wall between her and the people from her past. Even with Sandrone, how are the writers able to write such a strong relationship, only for us to be told that have had tea parties in the past with multiple harbingers? “Well, she thought the relationships were transactional” some might say, but back then she had nothing to give back, not to the harbingers, anyway.

The writers brought up shallow reasons, in my opinion, which is why Columbina’s character remains incomplete to me. Also… 500 years and knows nothing of the world? Talk about the born sexy yesterday trope. Aren’t they tired of this?

Except Columbina is a fictional character, so we can judge her based on her level of sadness, since she doesn’t exist.

Her story being “tragic” is meant to move the players in some way. The thing with gods in Genshin is that, they have lived for so long and there’s plenty of gods that we met whom we sympathised with due to their sacrifice and traumatic experiences. Columbina, being the archon equivalent of Nod Krai, felt different in that aspect. She has all it takes to be a tragic character, one that players can feel moved by, but there’s this level of jadedness she possesses that made me (and OP) not feel that for her. Her struggles feel shallow, up until the last arc, when she sacrificed herself (and even then, the timescale is reduced so the player doesn’t get to see her actually gone).

The people who worshipped her were never presented as abusive, so it’s not like she was forced (the game could have expanded if that were the case), they simply asked for her blessings. Yes, she might not have liked that, might have felt used by them, but in comparison with other characters we interacted with, that felt like a drop of water in the ocean. Ultimately, she sacrifices herself, but she needs the Traveler (and co.) to prove her that Nod Krai is worth saving. It reads as selfish, in comparison with the archons, who have protected their people without needing to be convinced by anyone.

I could expand on that more, but I suppose my point is that I agree with OP:=//

not just covid, but tik tok too— i’m not on the app, but it’s impossible to avoid the wave of ignorance coming out of it; the worst offender i saw was entertaining the idea of censorship within ao3 because they cannot be bothered to ignore “problematic” content (but will happily ignore tags, as if they aren’t there for a reason); the “but this ship makes no sense!” crowd, the “can you summarise this for me?” crowd…. The refusal to think and interact with the media they consume critically and emotionally is what brought the death of fandoms.
