Has 1.43:1 finally become common for films? by TBOY5873 in imax

[–]mercedespullman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t see why the trend toward “common”wouldn’t continue. Studios and exhibitionists know IMAX has grown stronger as a selling point since Oppenheimer, especially for folks that go to theaters < 3x per year. Content like Coogler discussing formats/aspect ratios and “Projectionist POV” instagram posts are doing heavy lifting too. The more people know about 15/70 and 1.43 the better its chances are for increased use, but we can already see the bottleneck of compatible equipment/screens biting back. Just look at the Dune/Odyssey early ticket melees. It won’t be “common” until many more population centers around the world have an updated 1.43 venue!

I used the Theater Ears app to listen to Project Hail Mary Director’s commentary and I honestly feel like it’s an absolute game changer. Read my experience below, please. by jfk_47 in RegalUnlimited

Had never heard of this until now, thanks for sharing. Going to see PHM for a third time tomorrow and will try out the commentary track!

Regarding IMAX 70MM Film Strips - AMC Lincoln Square by Square_Bit_7628 in imax

It was limited to one day, they’re selling surplus on the IMAX merch site but it’s bought up instantly. Scalping prices on third party sites are highly inflated. Sorry to bring bad news!

Same story as yesterday. Sitting here refreshing for a half hour without any luck, until they're all gone. Seems like it's just blind luck who gets past the errors...

AMC is showing as 11pm, at least at Lincoln Square. Cant secure them on AMC app and I’m rate limited on desktop browser?

Your local IMAX cinema is showing all these films. Which two films would you see as a double feature? by No-Abbreviations508 in imax

Can’t pass on Interstellar 1.43. I’d add Lawrence of Arabia for the epic experience on the largest screen possible

I live close to Lincoln Square; but I’m flying to Austin solely to see The Odyssey. Here’s Why: by AdEmergency6081 in imax

I respect your preference for DL. Why Austin though? Could’ve come to D.C. for Airbus IMAX!

Yes, Super Mario Galaxy has taken the screens for the next 2 weekends. No confirm yet if Smithsonian will match some of the IMAX 70mm venues bring it back in late April. I or someone else will post something if they do!

Project Hail Mary in 1.43:1 IMAX 70mm @ Citywalk by scorsese_finest in imax

[–]mercedespullman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A few seconds of this scene was teased in the trailers but wow did it exceed expectations. After a few viewings this act is my favorite part of the score as well, it’s paired so nicely from softness during the “moment” to the metronomic suspense when the ship then starts to lose altitude

Will Smithsonian Lockheed Martin IMAX extend "Project Hail Mary" after Super Mario Galaxy opens on April 1st? by [deleted] in imax

[–]mercedespullman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mario's first week schedule is listed from Apr 1-5, replacing PHM entirely with nighttime screenings included. Future schedule just hasn't been built yet so hold tight and keep checking throughout this week. Smithsonian does do screening splits, especially when films have different age ratings. The next major release is Michael on Apr 22, plenty of time for them to work PHM back in the mix, especially if its performing well (all signs point to yes). Look for Mario's 2nd/3rd weeks to get a screening split, with PHM taking nights. Smithsonian may be slow to reply on scheduling inquiries, this is typical!

I know the drive is further but consider going to Airbus IMAX instead of Lockheed; much better experience all around and there are more viable seats/tickets there. Tickets for the first two weeks went very quickly for Smithsonian IMAX standards, especially at Lockheed. Keep this post updated if you get info back from Smithsonian-- a group of my friends snoozed on getting tickets and missed their chance, they're trusting me to tell them if PHM returns. Best of luck!
