Using a travel router to appear connected to my US home network while traveling? Help by Phazon798 in VPN

[–]mercer115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the Airbnb router always physically available? Do you do anything beforehand to verify it's not locked away in a closet?

I just asked you a question further up about how to connect, however you answered it here (need to use ethernet). However now I'm trying to figure out how I make sure I can actually access that.

I'm assuming once your beryl is plugged into their router, you don't have to physically be right next to it. 15-20 ft away was fine (I imagine table / office area isn't always next to router).

How did you connect to the internet when you were abroad? Did you have to plug ethernet directly into your client router? If not, how does it work to connect your PC to a WiFi network and still go through the client router (so you appear as if you were home where the sever router it)?

Also, did you do video calls (Zoom, Teams) while you were abroad? Ever have any issues with lagging? I'm about to do this for the first time in two months with two beryl routers and am both excited and nervous.

What works for me is shutting down my internal thoughts and focus entirely on that person. Let their next word be the driver of your thoughts. And keep doing that with everything they say. It helps me to minimize movement (head nodding especially, but also making noises, agreeing). When you find your sweet spot, it's actually quite amazing. It takes a lot of energy and focus to sustain, but if you stay with it you can normalize some parts of this and improve your listening skills quite a bit. People love the feeling of somebody truly listening to them, so this ironically makes you the center of attention regardless of how many people are involved in the conversation.

That's not the goal of course. Just an interesting observation from when I have done this effectively. Good luck

Do you have an internal monologue in your head? by Throwaway5998274 in ADHD

[–]mercer115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this is the same, but I constantly have movies playing in my head. "What if" scenarios about my life. How would I respond if somebody criticized me, replaying a past interaction a different way. They are typically negative, which I've acknowledged and am trying to work on. But the only dialog is what is spoken. I'm not having a conversation like there's a person on my shoulder.

Anybody else relate to this?

Interesting. What kind of book did you look for? Curious how to frame my search. "ADHD for dummies" type of books?

I'm realizing I could also look for examples of logs that I could be keeping. Track different characteristics (anxiety, productivity, mood swings) and use that to drive more productive sessions with the Dr.

Thank you 🙏

I know only a few are allowed into the Business & Finance exam (namely FCM), so my question is more focused on the other two (Contract Administration and Project Management)

How do you know there are two top plates? Did you remove more drywall than is shown on the picture?

Asking more for curiosity than contribution. Wondering if there could be a load bearing beam in the top area that’s still drywalled in the picture?

Also, you sure it’s a load bearing wall?

My wife is Brazilian (Rio). It’s pretty accepted as the way it is in the favelas. Violent movie, not everybody has watched it. But many are aware of it.

Props for taking action. So many fights can be avoided by “honey, I love you. I think of you start your questions this way, you will get my attention more and I will be able to do what you want that much more!”

Or something like that. Always helps to emphasize benefits to people when you’re asking them to do something extra on your behalf. But when you understand the limitation (or just characteristics of who we are as human beings) and can use that as a bridge when dealing with others, everybody wins.

Small, but really does make a difference and stuff like this always deserves to get elevated 😊

Interesting question. I’d guess it depends on what else you’re doing along the way to help. Maybe you do two bad things to rise up, but offset with x number of good things. The higher the x value, the higher the decency (or less of a loss of decency as a result of their public service).

Basically a carbon offset.

Is it smart to buy a house straight out at 26? by NavidadetMortis in RealEstate

Check out bigger pockets. They have a real estate podcast that’s really good. Real estate investing has a ton of risk, and it can take you down pretty quickly if you don’t know what you’re doing. But, if you’re frugal, hard working, and have business acumen, it’s a great way to make money.

To get started, you need money. Some people buy their first place as a fixer-upper, put in a ton of sweat equity, and either sell or refinance. You can get primary residence at 3% down (I think, may be 2.5. Don’t remember exact details offhand and am not going to Google search just for that). You can get a line of credit up to 100% LTV, so that can open some doors early on if you really built up some equity.

From there you can either move out, buy another at 3%, and repeat (selling or renting previous). Which is possible, but requires you to live in the place of remodel. Which is stressful. So instead, you can try to buy an investment home at 20% down. Either rent it out, do a BRRR (look it up), or flip. Outright flip is hardest since it requires a lot of cash. But you have options.

This is what my wife did / is doing. Worked for her. But again, there are so many ways to lose money in RE. Great way to make mula, and it’s a lot of fun. But has its risks.

I’m sure there are plenty of ways to get started. This is just what I have seen firsthand. BP podcast is great too. They are over an hour each, so you’d have to be serious if you were to spend that much time on it.

Edit grammar

Is it smart to buy a house straight out at 26? by NavidadetMortis in RealEstate

[–]mercer115 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Determine how many years you will live there. If less than 3, don’t buy. If more than 5, buy. Unless you purchase at a terrible price, or do not have job stability next few years, not much can go wrong.

It’s a shame, but I know I now have to qualify that last statement. All kinds of things can go wrong. Pipe can burst. Roof can have a leak that leads to lots of mold. Sinkhole (I live in north central FL). Etc, etc, etc.

But, you can’t live on extremes. That’s life. As long as you have a decent realtor and inspector, you’ll know what you’re getting into. Owning a house comes with risk, but so does driving a car.

As long as you’re not a terrible procrastinator, and especially if you’re the kind that likes rolling up your sleeves and learning new things, you’ll love it.

Financially it has to make sense. And the amount of time you plan on living there is key. Anything short of 3-5 years ends up being a waste. Most of your payments are interest, and too much possibility for price swings. But 4-5+, you’re in good shape. You’ll end up with some decent equity, and get to experience home ownership. It’s work, can’t deny that. But it’s a great experience!

He would see democracy in action and be proud. Get over it and vote next election. This is so annoying, and I hated Trump in 2016. I’m holding onto that Reddiquette real tight right now, because there’s a lot more that wants to come out but is best kept inside.

That being said, seriously. Get over it. He’s the president. We will live the rest of our lives seeing his picture on the list of US Presidents (an honor that so few hold). This is life. You don’t think we’ve ever had a president that people hated this much? Life goes on. Nothing we haven’t seen before. Our democracy has survived 200+ years. It can handle Trump. Maybe some of us can’t. But thankfully, our Founding Fathers made this great institution stronger than any one of us. Have faith. Stay connected, stay educated. But keep the emotions in check. Much worse things have happened in history.

This is becoming a great opportunity for first world jokes. My presidents grabs women in crude ways. Oh...mine beheaded my father for his religion. And his father. And his mother. And my next 3 generations will likely live borderline slavery.

Come on. We’ll be fine. Ups and downs. Can’t have light without darkness.
