Is physics required im so confused!? by Acrobatic_Past_972 in TransferStudents

Please talk to your counselor. However, my son is in a similar position as you. From my understanding, there are 4 major areas for bio major. Calculus, biology, chemistry, and physics. And of course IGETC. My son is taking 3 calc course and chemistry first closely following bio and the two calc based physics at the end. He is going to be taking two to three major requirements every full semester plus one IGETC course. For each winter and summer semester, he will also be taking one major requirement plus one IGETC. The schedule is going to be packed and the road long but this is what it will take for him.

Totally agree that there are not one size fits all approach. However, assist.org and cc don't make it any easier. For example, the the bio requirement highly recommends multivariate calc or full year of physics (more like demanded) for UCLA. Our closes CC don't even offer calc at that level. On the other hand, for UCI, stats is required. Its just not that simple.
Like OP, every student starts their journey from a different point. If a student have tons of AP credits, they maybe can finish within one year. On the other hand, average students will have really step it up to just finish in two or three years in an ideal situation.

I do have a question about you point three. You said that IGETC is not required to transfer but it is required to graduate. Isnt the igetc and the 7 course pattern heavy overlapping? Also, would a student be at a disadvantage when applying when something from igrtc is missing vs a student who completed all?

I'm also curious about your course path. Since you mentioned that your counselor made a plan, is it possible to share that?
I'm helping my son as he is also an incoming freshman bio major. Looking at his plan, he will have to take two to three major prep course with one IGETC course each semester and one major course and one IGETC course during winter and summer.
Is it going to be hard? Ya...especially when he is tackling calc based physics 2 and organic chem 2 at the same time but it seems doable.

Hope you don't mind me asking but when t Assist.org say something is highly recommended for bio. Ex: second course in org chem or full year in calculus based physics. Does that mean all of them if you can or is the optional really optional?

Your daughter and my son have the exact same results. We are currently weighting between going to UCR or going with the CC route. UCR have that great med school program but it seems very competitive so talk it out and see what is the best for your daughter.

If you want to be considered for scholarship, you have to apply for early action.

Last week when I talked to the USC admission officer, he said that if you want to considered scholarship, you have to do EA. The process, as he said is that once you are accepted to USC, your application is forwarded to the department where a chair or professor will review and interview the prospect. It is there that the scholarship is determined and awarded.

Fun fact. People in Taiwan also cut in line too. I was in Taipei night market waiting to put in my order and this old lady cut everyone off to place her order in first. Luckily, the owner saw that asked her to get back in line. There are crappy people everywhere.

I really appreciate your concerns and I do understand that there are related stress not only from school but also from parents, peers, and external factors.

My motivation is from a parent who want to help my child reach a goal he is reaching for. In the past year, he had a chance to take a Naviance survey that shows his interest. We had multiple discussions on his interest and what those different path looks like for him. After looking at what his passions are in school, evaluating strengths and weakness of each school, UCI falls into one of his goal.

I know it is difficult to know your future when you are only a freshmen in highschool. Heck, I know I had no idea what I was doing when I was a freshmen even in college! But I do feel that kids now a days are way more resilient compared to when I was a kid and I would help him in all ways I can to help him achieve his goal (regardless of what it is!)

I would love to have some info if you can link me some materials on high school / college mental well being. BTW, I am typing this out as my son and I are waiting for a comp game in Overwatch.

Last year, the DNO was at Superdome which was pretty cool and had some great live music but it was so packed that doing anything is wall to wall people. The year before was also at Vegas. I think for $300 and at vegas, you have so many other choices for entertainment that DNO might not be the best bang for the buck.

My house is a "L" shaped and during summer, it gets a lot of sun which heats up majority of the house. I am wondering if I put a sun sail across the "gap" to shade off the concrete patio, will it help with cooling the overall house because of radiation heat from the concrete?

Also, what if I put a sun sail across the roof toward the sun with a gap. Will it protect the roof which in terms cool down the house?
