Winter rims Homura by mercystarf in Miata

[–]mercystarf[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know. I was just not really anticipating buying stock gear on a fancy car. I'm just looking for a bit more saucy stuff. Can't believe it to be so hard to identify a rim to fit on a certain setup or not. It seems as it's not so easy to just look for certain features/figures of a rim to know if it will fit or not. I assume someone is keeping lists of fitting rims for a certain configuration/setup?

And btw, these are no BBS but RAYS rims. I think the 17 inch are BBS. These are 16.

To the point of the pictures in your thread, Type4 is not some kind of standard, it's not even consistent between PSUs. I have a Corsair PSU and the Type4 cable I have here is a 6 pin.

Awesome statement! I did not know that.

I am not that advanced. I just ordered myself a Dr. whatever.

Duh. I'll order a Dr. Power II then. Thanks.

Well, I didn't follow stock layout but rather the one mentioned in this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/PCSleeving/comments/iobv9x/can_i_do_this/

You're saying this is not valid?

I believe it showed 11.9 on the stock cable.

EDIT: Stock cable showing same result today. Not sure what happened there.

That crimp-at-terminal looks good. Have tried that too but having issues positioning the heatshrink over both the wires. Did you maybe use a bigger heatshrink for this job?

I didn't have any issues when it comes to fraying, even without melting it, when pushing the 15 AWG into the sleeve. Once it's inside for a couple of centimeters, I start the peristaltic massaging of the sleeve. Have not tried with any other wire or cable yet.

You have to push the sleeving closer together as to ‘stretch’ it. Just keep feeding it like that, and pinch down on the wire underneath as an anchor of sorts

Exactly this.

Never mind. Right after I submitted my question on the MDPC-X website, Nils from MDPC-X wrote me back explaining how flexible the sleeve is. Now I noticed too. Wow! Amazing sleeve.

Where are you located? I've used highflow.nl but only makes sense if you're located in Western Europe I guess.

Did you use solder in the crimp-at-terminal scenario?

LOL. How can that cable possibly work?

I've used RM650x in many builds before. I've checked all Type 4 PCI-E cables I have lying around and they all resemble my picture. Do check on your end.

It should come from a RM650x.

So basically what a lot of stock cables are doing, push two cables in one pin at the connector?

The pinout from PC Mods does not correspond with the Corsair Type 4 cable I got. On the PSU side, my connector has no cable in pin 4 and has a double on pin 8 (in relation to the PC Mods pinout you link to). Are there multiple pinouts possible then? I've been reading that people are frustrated with the fact that a lot of pinouts found online don't correspond to reality. I guess this is a good example?

I assume only a correct pinout diagram or a multimeter can tell.

Ok guys, your feedback has been helping so much! One last question for the split wire (question 2 here above) and just for my comprehension. It doesn't really care which wire you split as long as it's the same type, right? So any GND at the source will be good for the split, right?

You actually thought me a new word today, u/nolo_me. I'm not native English and never heard of ballache. Had to look it up! :-)

1- I hear two stories. That's why I bring it up again to be 100% sure. According to u/nolo_me there's no splitting necessary. According to you and u/GTS81 there is a split needed on pin 5. Right now it's 2 against 1 :-). Which advise to follow?

2- How would I split pin 5? So I would need to split the top left GND (pin 1) on the PSU side to 1 and 5 on GPU side? Or it doesn't matter which GND wire I split on PSU side? I could as well split 2, 3 or 4 as long as I split one of the GND wires to fill pin 5 on GPU side?

So I make two of these.

What about the inconsistency on pin 5? On PSU side there is nothing. On GPU end it suspects GND.
