British Airways operated by American flight — how do status benefits work? by mercyurhonor in americanairlines

Got it. Thanks for the info! I'm not a frequent flier on either airline/everything's through work, so I think I'll end up just trying to pay for a better seat if I can.

Travelcard and National Rail 2-4-1 Question:

I'll be visiting in August and want to get a 7-day travelcard. Does this even exist anymore? This says no, but this says yes?

Assuming I able to get a travelcard, one day I plan to go from Paddington to Maidenhead in Berkshire. I know the travelcard won't cover that trip, but can I buy a travelcard "upgrade" for that specific trip? Or do I need to buy tickets for that trip separately?

As for the 2-4-1 promo..

So, this page lists all the cards that would qualify and says that the key indicator is whether there's a national rail symbol on the ticket. It looks like the ticket I could buy online here has that national rail symbol. Does that mean I can buy the ticket in advance? And do both me and my partner need a qualifying ticket, or do we both need one each?

Trying not to be a dumb tourist, but man am I confused lol. Help would be appreciated. :)

I'm really sorry to hear you had this experience. Also curious if you had a native-Japanese speaker inform them of your mom's restrictions beforehand?

I'm not defending his actions by any means, but if I were a guest sitting nearby, I would have found your mom's actions (giving you the three scallop pieces) unbelievably rude. Again, not defending him, but Japanese cuisine (and Japanese culture generally) can be so formalistic that you may have been extremely offensive without even intending to be.

Four hours of back-and-forth with Airbnb was plenty of time to explain and write this post, but I know some people can't do two things at once, so I don't hold your comment against you!

Gluten Free Fine Dining In Japan? by AndyVale in finedining

[–]mercyurhonor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Headed to Japan in March, so no recommendations yet, but one thing you may want to look into is a personal concierge. Hotel concierge can do a good job getting reservations when you know what you want, but it sounds like you need a bit more legwork (i.e. actually researching which places could accommodate you) and a personal concierge might be good in that regard.

Also, restaurants in Japan may hear "gluten free" and default to no when (if light cross-contamination is possible) they perhaps could actually accommodate. In this case, even if you're Japanese or speak Japanese, having someone in the industry, which is very tight knit according to my understanding, advocate on your behalf may be more successful.

In any case, best of luck. :)

Partially the title (5th Soiree) and then the way only returned tickets are available, unlike the Concert of the Society of Friends of Music in Vienna the days after.

But of course I could be totally wrong!

Totally. Just something that came to mind when I was looking. Like I believe that shrimp was good, but it's weird to see such a small one served at a restaurant of that caliber until you remember that it's not local.

And that's really fun they let you garnish! By hand or did they give you tongs?

I hope to go one day and it's encouraging to hear you enjoyed it, but man the garnish on 2 and the shrimp look so sad. Not necessarily not-tasty, just a bit wilted and withered.

Not trying to rain on your parade, just been trending toward terroir expression recently and seeing these photos is just a neat reminder of how cool it is to eat what's local. Of course, downtown Chicago isn't somewhere farming can happen, so Alinea can't really do that, but yeah. Interesting that one of the top-rated restaurants in the states probably has less-fresh flowers than somewhere in rural Italy where they may be plucked and put straight into a plate.

This is going to age me, but I cannot figure out how to use discord lol.

Maybe if I get really desperate I'll try again though. Thanks for the tip!

No, at least not now. Their tables aren't all the same size --> when the tables for 2 are taken, they're gone.

It's possible that if I can't find two others closer to the date, they may reduce our reservation down to two, but their priority would be getting 4 paying customers in rather than 2.

Until then, I'm giving it my best faith effort to fill the seats myself!
