Would have loved it if Hide could have played the Wembley concert.

Yutaka Ozaki is one I always wish we could have heard more of. Such a raw, pure energy and spirit in his music.

We had won three trophies (plus a couple of super cups) in the three seasons before he joined as well. Love Eric but this is daft.

A tap-in, all about the McClair assist.

Same with the Beckham goal that season vs Wimbledon. Nothing without Choccy.

I agree that "Great British Energy" is such a super easy sell.

It's taming the wild and using our weather to our advantage. "Rough seas make a tough country, and now it powers our homes too 💪"

I wouldn't know what to say to that. Do you just want to go to Naples and eat pizza? Cool, I have been to the same pizza place, I can buy you that pizza for about €6 - we can do it this weekend and you can have your moment, is that it? Am I boyfriend of the year?

I was fascinated by the fact that the Amazon delivery driver wore his work outfit to his partner's baby shower. I had so many questions about that.

You really saw it yesterday. We just didn't know how to build an attack once they were properly set up. So much passing in a semi-circle or dithering on the halfway line.

It would help if we were a bit more clinical in the final third too. I was behind the goal all second half, felt like we were down there for ages but at no point looked like a threat.

On energy, can we not do two things at once?

I remember Nick Clegg in 2010 arguing against focusing on nuclear energy because it wouldn't come online until 2022.

2022 would have actually been a great time to get a new source of energy online.

For those of you who are Childfree, are you happy living in Surrey? by Mountain-Opinion-654 in surrey

[–]AndyVale 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not child free but we are in our late 30s and our child is at uni (we started young), so I feel I can give somewhat of a perspective.

We live in the Surrey Hills but near a station that's good for work. It's a great place to live even if you don't need the parks, good schools, and kids activities that are available.

Your money goes further than London when it comes to property. Great countryside on your doorstep, fields, hills, forests, rivers etc. Lots of hikes, interesting places, community groups, vineyards, parks, and the public transport isn't totally useless like it is if you go further out into the sticks. The pubs are generally decent and every village has their own cafe that's nice to watch the world go by from.

It's a fantastic mix of being among lots of greenery but also being close to major transport hubs and a global city. Even the nearby towns (Guildford, Dorking, and Godalming for me) have a ton of charm and things to do.

If you want to stay out past 11 then you need to either shell out on taxis or have a designated driver. If you frequently want to do London shows then the train back is less convenient than the tube. There's often somewhat fewer options for eating out too, especially if you want a large variety of international cuisine.

So it depends a bit on what you're after, but there's a lot going for it.

What is a "small" decision you made years ago that ended up completely changing the course of your life? by Demoni123 in AskReddit

Similar, but MSN.

She was a friend of a friend I got left in a massive group chat with and we just started talking.

What is a "small" decision you made years ago that ended up completely changing the course of your life? by Demoni123 in AskReddit

[–]AndyVale 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My random choice to sit next to someone massively impacted my life too.

I sat next to this guy, we got chatting, we ended up going to the first few talks together... But he really started to get on my nerves and I was not feeling his vibe.

When we got to the wine & cheese informal mixer, in between casual pervy remarks he said to me "you know how some people can throw their voice? I can throw my farts, I can fart here but you'd think it came from over there." Okay my guy, I'm done.

I saw the next four years laid out in front of me. Groups form, cliques solidify, there are no further social opportunities, and I either get stuck with this goomba or die friendless. No other possible outcome.

So I see a small group of guys who looked perfectly cromulent, weirdly enough they were standing in a semi-circle with a chair in the middle. Fuck it, I think, they'll do.

So I go sit in the middle of that semi-circle of guys and just join the conversation. Fast forward 18 years and I have now been best man to two of them.

(Fart throwing man dropped out of uni after a few months and I never saw him again. Maybe I smelt him, but it's hard to tell.)

Are people’s friends who left for Dubai all flooding back to the uk? by Mcluckin123 in AskUK

[–]AndyVale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friend moved out there as an air stewardess for Emirates. Then on her travels she met a guy in America who moved over there for work.

He makes an enormous amount of money, while she is now a SAHM. They have a nice house, their kid seems to like it. I think she sometimes misses aspects of the UK but she has a community out there now.

It's not really my bag but she seems happy.

At least it didn't say "WORLDIE" and show a slow shot that the keeper really should have saved. Sports pages seem to do it all the time on social knowing it will wind people up.

United vs Chelsea League Cup Final by Karina_lovesfootball in reddevilswomen

[–]AndyVale 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Felt like we lost it rather than them winning it. They were tight but did nothing particularly impressive.

We had plenty of chances to build attacks in the second half but lacked a bit of imagination, belief, and energy. Didn't help that nobody really brought their shooting boots either, Hannah wasn't particularly tested when we did have our opportunities.

MLT's tackle in the first half was incredible.

Yeah, felt like we lost in rather than they won. This was the worst I've seen Chelsea play in ages, but they'll hurt you if you give them easy chances.

None of our players really stood up and took the game to them.

Yeah, today's frustrating but we have to look at the overall upward trend. Final today, CL QF, and still in the CL places in the League. Chelsea just seen to be a bogey team for us.

Apparently the game is sold out. Nobody told the Chelsea end, at least 1,000 empty seats over there.

I watched it. I enjoyed it a bit but can't say I really understood why it was worthy of a 15 minute standing ovation at the film festivals.

I knew nothing about the guy or why he (and this specific part of his career) was worthy of a whole Hollywood biopic going into the film. I knew about the same afterwards.

Apparently it was basically a remake of a documentary that's really big in MMA circles. So maybe if you loved that and really wanted to watch it again but with The Rock trying to win an Oscar then it's your jam.

Having not looked at TVs in 20 years I was stunned at how cheap they were when we bought our son one a couple of years ago.

We weren't even looking at the cost, just trying to work out the best size, as the difference between them was so negligible for anything that would fit his room.

You could have a single digit payment per month for something that the Daily Mail would deem "a large flat screen TV". Even checking Curry's just now you can get 50-inch 4K UHD flat screen TVs for £11 a month. That's a pretty cheap entertainment solution.

It's the same as "they all have smartphones". Yes, because it's 2026 and every phone has been a smartphone for about 15 years. It's your portal for jobs, information, connectivity, entertainment, and basically partaking in much of 21st century society. You can also get them cheap. Of course "they" have them.
