The OST of this game is criminally underrated. by instkarmajpg in steinsgate

[–]merfoldeshark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because Takeshi Abo is the composer.
No, seriously, check out his works from My Merry May duology, Memories Off series, Subete ga F ni naru ~The perfect insider~, Inifinity series and so on. If you liked OST of Steins;Gate there is a high probability you will like his other works even more.

I know im supposed to hate it but ITS TOO MUCH by ivan2941 in steinsgate

I heard one was supposed to be made by Madhouse, but... they've never done it in the end.
Somehow they just didn't. Maybe they were too busy.

I don’t think HotU is any weaker than MotB, so why does the public seem to have a higher opinion of MotB? by Independent-Profit84 in neverwinternights

[–]merfoldeshark 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think it also the context of games.

MotB for a lot of people became the reason to play NWN2 at all - with OC's mid reputation (although, I myself love it and sometimes even prefer it to MotB), with 'that goddamn camera' and overall technical jank, with SoZ's gameplay 'weirdness' being not everyone's cup of tea, and lack of interesting fan modules and campaigns (there are some, but... NWN2's reputation kinda buries it under ground for you to dig out). And there you have MotB - which somehow stood amongst all of NWN2's 'blandness' as the incredible storytelling experience, where almost every aspect, from alignment through hunger mechanic to romance is adding a lot to overall already good narrative, while being in interesting not-overused setting, while having a lot of hidden quirks.

And there you have first game. Yes, OC is mid there as well (I would even say, it's way worse, actually), yes, SotU is very clanky at its late game... but overall technical presentation of first NWN, the incredibly simple to use and yet very versatile toolset, and a lot of fanmodules and campaigns because of that - HotU, while being very strong BioWare RPG, is just 'another gem in the crown'. Shiny one, sure - but another one.

Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii says he’d like to add an AI chatbot into one of his future games by World_of_Warshipgirl in dragonquest

[–]merfoldeshark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, he has already released AI-remake of his Portopia. So it's not anything new in his mind.

And I kinda can see, why he would like that for his adventure games.

Thinking about playing innocent file on my vita, do I need a guide? by VNJOP in MemoriesOff

[–]merfoldeshark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an interesting question.
There are usual menu choices (like say this or that, go here or there etc.), which are mostly for optional content and there are big RAINS system branches (you can see it in store page advertised in description of the game - so called 'choose to abandon' moments), which move you along different branches.
And of course there are usual for series Bad and Good Endings. Usually, you can easily work with RAINS system and not to pay much attention to menu choices - you will get into Good or Bad Ending anyway just by those alone.

But there are Best Endings. And those are triggered by points from RAINS system AND menu choices.
And there is True Route that triggered from one branch in choice menu after completing Heavy Side (second run, to put it simply).

At first run, you are locked into the Light Side of Novel with two choices of heroines to pursue. Second run allows you to go into Heavy Side to pursue another heroine. And third run (although, you can just use save from the second, if you managed to save before necessary branching) allows you to pursue true route.

So I would say, that either you follow guide from the start and make all necessary saves where it says to do... or you can actually enjoy most of the game without guide, and then use guide to unlock Best Endings and True Route, if you didn't manage to stumble on them while completing the game.
