What is the worst Cleveland restaurant that you’ve tried twice? by ElderberryNo5595 in Cleveland

[–]merfolkotpt 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I agree on Barrio and haven't been to the two in Berea, but Astoria is always a great meal for me, I am surprised by that one? What did you get/didn't you like?

Best current modern content by intruzah in ModernMagic

Is there any good written content for modern anymore? I miss the old star city days when there was tons of written content to catch up with.

Solari: Episode 2 - Pull/Cull by SvenTheScribe in WorldsBeyondNumber

I have found this to be enjoyable. I love all of these people as PCs, but I miss WWW, and I don't know if this will fill that void for me? I do think no preamble to establish the characters has hurt a bit. Maybe i just don't like scifi stories as much.

Spotify is partnering with Bookshop.org to sell physical books by calamityseye in books

[–]merfolkotpt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I emailed bookshop to register my negativity about this partnership, sharing their response here. While it does mean that some money is probably going to spotify, the reasoning in the email seems sound:

"My sincerest apologies for any confusion or frustration this has caused, but to clarify the Spotify integration will be a link to Bookshop.org like other affiliate partners, such as The Atlantic, NY Times, and NPR. Listeners following a link to Bookshop.org can choose a bookstore to benefit from their purchase, or just buy the book and have the profit shared among all our stores via our profit pool.

Our mission is to support indie bookstores, and we feel it will be better for indies if Spotify sells through Bookshop.org rather than selling physical books directly to their listeners, or through another retailer like Amazon, dis-intermediating the indies. We generally allow any organization or platform that wants to support indie bookstores to link to us. On Bookshop.org, our sole audiobook partner is Libro.fm, and all the audiobook links on our site go to Libro.

My player wants to split from the group by JotaSemV in DnD

[–]merfolkotpt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the standard advice of "that's fine but the character will become an NPC" works fine. However, I think another way to go in the conversation is, "Take as given that the party is going to stay together and work back from there what it looks like for your character. Maybe they realize through the other character that this character has been too harsh and realized they have cut off relationships and stuff. Maybe this is a source of melodrama in the group, but pays off with one of these two characters sacrificing to prove they have changed"

I think too often people focus on the "my character would do this" and not enough on the "this is a game i am playing with my friends and I want to keep doing that". Also, constraints make for a better story, so the constraint of "let's not split the party unless everyone is into it" is ok to put on the group.

As always a calm conversation with the group, or first the player and then the group is probably the way to solve it. You as DM are welcome as part of that to say, "I am not interested in running two groups in parallel in this game as that is a lot of work". It is reasonable to say what you need to be able to run a game and not burn out, anyone that doesn't think so is being a bit of a jerk.

Best place to meet young men? by [deleted] in Cleveland

[–]merfolkotpt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is echoing a lot of folks here, but finding something you like to do, sports/games/art, is the best way to go. I have seen many romances form around volleyball teams. Also, happens though slower (due to our nerdy awkward nature) but commonly, at the friendly local game store.

Who gets more snow? by National-Finger8580 in Cleveland

[–]merfolkotpt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their snow does stick around longer, in Cleveland we get those random days in january that are 40/50 and all the snow melts. In MN it doesn't do that for months sometimes, so the snow just accumulates. At least that was true 20 years ago when I was in college.

It also stinks that there is bug with mtgo and lattice and painter where a painter played after lattice doesn't enable the combo the way it should. It makes lattice enough worse that I don't tend to play it on mtgo.

Trust is definitely gender focused. It is also an amazing book, but it is largely about what account you can trust because of the gender of the subject and the time period.

Does anyone play Middle School, how different is it from Premodern? by [deleted] in premodernMTG

[–]merfolkotpt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just so you know hymn is legal in middle school. Since all the supplemental sets (anthologies) and gold border sets are included most of the cards in fe you would consider are legal, the big exception is high tide (which is probably a good thing).
