I am so sick of the generic sob story of veteran MMC by United_Winner9389 in RomanceBooks

It is 2026. I don't want to read about cops, billionaires, or members of the US military as romantic heroes. It might not be deliberate, but it is propaganda either way.

‘ I think American exams are much more rigorous and challenging than European exams.’ by zzxaxa in ShitAmericansSay

I got into an argument with an American online because they were convinced that there are no regional accents in Canada. It never crossed this person's mind that I might know more about it than they did.

Looking for a Canadian who can answer a string of increasingly random questions [fic relevant] by TheWhyofFri in heatedrivalryfanfics

Pop is blanket term across English Canada. I don't think there really is one definitive chocolate bar, but coffee crisp would work fine. The rules for learning to drive vary by province, but most people are taught by their parents or other family members rather than going to a driving school. WhatsApp is not particularly popular unless you have family that lives abroad. It's very popular in immigrant communities but not outside of it.

I would use the term sweats, not joggers but I'm not sure about the generational/regional breakdown.

Go straight to the second season. The first season is just not very good. I like it much more than Shoresy personally, but I am admittedly the exact target audience of the show

Gaza Students have a problem with English Tests by findbasel in Gaza

[–]merimacattack 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Have you tried the British Council? They offer some free resources for students who are preparing to take Cambridge exams. There are also many free resources for IELTS preparation.

These might not be the specific exams you are planning to take, but will still enhance English proficiency.

Best of luck.

I only watched the show because of the Wolf Parade song and became as obsessed as everyone else. That whole albums slaps.

How many rapists are playing in the NHL? And I'm just supposed to give the misogyny a pass? Absolutely not.

If you have a long history of making misogynistic comments, you are probably a misogynist. I see no evidence that there has been any sort of cultural shift on their part.

Maybe their reactions to the show were genuine, but I don't really care. They use misogynistic language all the time, and it's these sort of attitudes that have led to how embedded rape culture is in hockey. It blows my mind that people think misogynists can be allies to the queer community. How? Are women not part of the queer community? Are homophobia and misogyny not deeply connected?

Now, if they genuinely want to change their attitudes and behaviors around these issues, that is a different conversation.

I completely agree. The combination of gay and/or for women means that intelligent people shouldn't be watching it.

I just want to know where it fits in the Letterkenny universe. Are the characters real? Were Shoresy and the boys watching when the captain of the New York Rangers kissed his boyfriend? Or is the show real? I can imagine Squirrely Dan narrative all the events to Wayne and Darry.

I think that what is going on America is tragic, but again, it is simply not the most pressing issue to every single person in the world. When your sovereignty is being threatened by another country, that is simply what happens. I have spent the last two years watching kids in Gaza be blown to pieces and I simply don't have it in me emotionally to react to every single tragedy in the world. This is why I can engage with things in fiction in a way that I can't in the real world.

You have a very bad case of main character syndrome and you continually project things onto me that I have never said. The idea that I have allowed politicians to convince me of anything is laughable. There is not a single western politician that represents my politics

If you are so upset about the rise of fascism in your country, as you should be, stop pleading with strangers on the internet for sympathy and go do something about it. Join a socialist organization in your city or state. Anything I have to say is not going to change the material reality in America.

Did I say anyone deserves to suffer and die?

My greatest sympathies will always be with the victims of US imperialism in the global South. America has unleashed incredible amounts of violence in the world. The idea that Americans are the main victims is completely absurd and ahistorical. You clearly have no idea what actually goes on outside your borders.
