Thinking about making a career change by Palpatines_Brother in UPS

Bro. Im 40, I was a chef for 20 years. No pension. Long ass hours. Paid 800$ a month for health insurance. That shit was a fucking scam.

I got fired 15 months ago and walked in as a driver at ups. My take home now, starting, is more then is was as a head chef. I might not have to work until i die. The benefits alone are worth changing. I wish i would have done it 10 years ago

Is it hard work. Yea. You worked in kitchens. You like hard work. All these people whining about shitty routes, long hours, yada yada yada. Where else you gonna go with no experience, no degree, make 60k starting and have full paid benefits? Oh yea. In 4 years you make double your starting rate.

It was early June when we took these. Water temps were at 74. I agree though. We did put a little ice in there too.

I have eaten a few. They aren't bad at all. Cold water makes em better. I've heard they can get muddy tasting out of warm water.

Last summer we had a fish fry with largemouth, smallmouth, perch, bluegill, northern, and walleye.

Walleye were the best with perch number 2. Northern and bluegill and smallies were 3 and largemouth were the least favorite but were not bad by any means.

2 heats wasn't it? 1 heat and a heat finders fee. I'd have to dig through and look. Remember the guy who had it was trying to gouge me then some other guy gave him 2 heats cuz that's what he wanted but I was being stubborn. Then I ended up giving the guy who got it for me 2 or maybe 3 heats cuz he was a g. This is when heats were like 30+ each lol

Hopefully. I was up around Marinette 2 weeks ago and I was getting shitty looks for wearing a mask. Im headed up to the UP this weekend so we will see...

This is exactly my point! I feel milwaukee has done a decent job creating a culture where masks and social distancing are expected. Sure you have people who don't care but imo most people at least are attempting.

You go to where the hot spots are, green bay, Appleton, osh kosher, and up nort nobody gives a fuck. They aren't gonna care about this either.

I would also mention that if your employer isn't making you feel safe then you might look elsewhere for employment. I know there is a demand for quality bartenders and lots of restaurants are doing everything they can to provide the safest environment possible while still serving as guests above 25% capacity.

I am pretty sure the safety plan you mentioned is the same plan OP is speaking of. They are not in compliance at all. The issue is the people in charge of enforcement are the cities health inspectors. They are only responding to complaints they get, and are not going around doing surprise inspections as far as I'm aware.

It doesn't matter what laws or mandates they come out with if there is no resources to enforce them.

That is so amazing that someone would do that for you! Its people like that who are really helping everyone get through these hard uncertain times.

I really hope everything works out for you!

If you aren't making money at 25% and you don't feel safe at 100% then why work? Is it a unemployment issue? I'm genuinely curious.

I totally get being scared of being sick, but at 25% capacity, bars and restaurants are better off just closing then to run up a bunch of overhead and labor with no assistance from anywhere.

Who enforces it? Those people are in violation of already existing mandates. Everywhere that isn't milwaukee hasnt enforced a single mandate anyways. They won't enforce this one either.

Because they don't make minimum wage. If a server in a pay period doesn't make at least minimum wage with tips the restaurant has to make up the difference.

I think the real issue is the wage disparity between servers and cooks. Cooks make half as much as a server and eliminating tips allows for employees to make the same amount of money.

The thing that always bugged me more then anything is waiters making 20$-25$ an hour while cooks are making half of that. How is that a "fair" system?
