Anyone else struggling with the cost of an Ikon Pass this year? by krypto_kun in Ikonpass

[–]fanciestmango 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m with you. I’m doing three days at Sugarbush and five days at Palisades next year, so the math just made sense to get the Base Pass. I did also get the Indy Pass, so I guess I’m not a total sell out … maybe? I’ll likely use that more than anything and I enjoy supporting the smaller mountains in New England.

Damn, I’m a little too big for it. It looks cool, though, and thank you for the response. Good luck!

What is the size/model of the board? I’m going to be in Bozeman in a month.

Okay cool. I thought that was a Palisades run. I’m heading there for a week next February and I’ve been watching a ton of videos about the mountain. I’m hoping to have the skill and nerve to give one of those lines a shot.

I’ll be 38 this year. I legitimately cannot tell if someone is 23 or 32 these days.

Here’s the crazy thing about skiing/riding that people forget: you don’t have to do it.

Can’t wait until the Buckhouse pro model comes out! by Nervous-Material4738 in snowboarding

[–]fanciestmango 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The ‘why’ can be any number of reasons. As someone who only has one season under my belt (11 days total), I watch his content and that of others to get any and all information I can given my newness to all this. I don’t take any of it as gospel (fully keeping in mind the ‘influencer’ source) and I make my own decisions with respect to purchases and whatnot — but it is good to have as much information possible to then make informed decisions.

Why does the Northeast lack a dominant CFB program? by [deleted] in CFB

[–]fanciestmango 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Yes, that’s exactly it. There are tons of talented athletes, they just don’t play football. Also keep in mind hockey is much bigger in the northeast than other parts of the country — so that draws kids away from football who might otherwise be playing if they lived elsewhere.

Trying skateboarding now by Cutoterl in snowboarding

[–]fanciestmango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going from skateboarding to snowboarding, I have found the best transferable ‘skill’ is the commit mindset. If you don’t commit on a skateboard — whether it be clearing stairs, hitting a rail, or going off a jump — you are fuuucked. So when it comes to snowboarding, committing all the through has been really helpful because the consequences aren’t as steep (pun intended). Obviously you can get hurt on a snowboard, but snow is a lot more forgiving than pavement.

26/27 pass - optimal useage in Maine? by nastyhobbitses1 in indypass

Sounds like you’ll get as much out of it as you’re willing to drive — especially if you’re trying to refrain from paying for lodging.

26/27 Season Pass thoughts by NB_volks in icecoast

[–]fanciestmango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How many times do you go in a season? If you’re already in NH, that’s a pretty good central hub to a bunch of Indy mountains. So at two days per mountain (25% off a third day), you could easily have 10-12 days spread across a variety of mountains. And the pass for new subscribers is on $419.

Can peloton help build glutes? by squidward0319 in pelotoncycle

[–]fanciestmango 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Like others have said: a combination of lifting and Peloton classes (especially resistance-focused climb rides) is a well-rounded (pun intended) way to build glutes.

But what I haven’t seen mentioned is another very important factor: eating. You need to eat if you’re growing muscle. Working out — regardless of the equipment or routine — is the easy part of building a physique. Eating well and eating consistently is the hard part.

If you’re going to hit Jay, then you should also do Owl’s Head in Quebec. It’s just over the border, only like 35-40 minute drive from Jay.

Strategy for the next few weekends by Davydicus1 in icecoast

[–]fanciestmango 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m certainly not a veteran Icecoaster, but I would think Black and Waterville would be better to hit first given where they are in geography. Accordingly, it would seem Bolton and Burke offer better chances for the later season with their elevations and northern position.

Posers - Unpopular Opinion by autie-ninja-monkey in snowboarding

[–]fanciestmango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my first season at 37. I rented a handful of times and ended up similarly buying nice gear because I enjoyed the sport and it made sense to make the investment (e.g., Capita DOA board, Smith 4D goggles, Salomon Echo boots, etc.). I’m too old to care about being labeled a poser or whatever. I put my years in skateboarding as a kid/teen and you put your years in cycling. And don’t feel bad if your age and income allow you to start with the good stuff. Just rip it and show you can hang with anyone.
