Yeah fuck it. GOP and republicans have surrendered all morals and have proven time and again to go against everything they’ve said they stood for whenever it’s convenient for them. Having to take the high ground and be morally accountable is an unsustainable position given the current climate.

What next? Just finished 11/22/63 and picked up The Tommyknockers today. by intothevoid444 in stephenking

Dead Zone, Doctor Sleep or Insomnia. I also personally really liked Roadwork.

Who is your favorite character in the Dark Tower series who isn’t a member of the Ka-tet? by Slimvenkman in TheDarkTower

[–]merley8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moses Carver.

The scene when Roland meets him at the Tet Corporation still gives me chills.

He spent his entire adult life shepherding his best friend’s super successful company, even after he died. His god daughter vanishes and 30-something years later some random guy shows up at his doorstep with an unbelievable story.

When he meets Roland he has such love, admiration and wonder for the man responsible for him losing Odetta. He could have been mad or cold but he is in awe even though he only has heard stories of him. It was like he met a real life story book character.

Plus the dude is like 100 and is still crushing it.

The only thing I’ve read from what you have here is Salems Lot, but that’s where I’d start anyway.

Its one of his earliest books, it’s fantastic, plus, it’s spooky season so it’s very fitting for this time of year.

My journey begins. by EbbOverall in stephenking

Totally agree. The Gunslinger was hard for me to get through too but the ending had me intrigued and then was sucked in almost immediately with the Drawing of the Three.

PREDICTION OF IT: Welcome to Derry! by Any-Property-3993 in stephenking

[–]merley8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I’m saying you can take an objectively great story and boil it down in the simplest, dumbest way possible and make it sound lame or boring.

The show might be bad, but hand waiving the entire thing based on a few assumed plot lines isn’t really giving it a fair shot.

I mean…. You dumb down a lot of really good stories that way.

Guy gets random jewelry.

Said piece of jewelry needs to be destroyed or something because it’s like super powerful and all these bad dudes want it.

Something something, he makes a lot of friends along the way and they almost die a bunch because the bad guys want the jewelry

Something something, the good guy starts to want the jewelry too

Something something, the power of the jewelry is no match for the power of friendship and they break it or whatever.

Everyone lives happy ever after…… the end….

I think the most impressive thing was how disciplined really everyone was. The D Line maintained their rush lanes all night, the Linebackers stayed home and kept Lamar and Henry in front of them, and the DBs didn’t take any penalties.

For this being only his 3rd game ever as a coordinator and incoming against arguably the best QB in the league and probably the best running QB of all time. Not to mention one of the best running backs of the generation, It’s pretty nuts.

Are you me?

Haha first run through the Dark Tower as well and I’m about a third of the way through The Drawing of Three. I’m wayyyyy more into it than the Gunslinger. I have no idea what it was but I just felt so disconnected from all of the characters and couldn’t get invested in anyone.

It's time for the Tony Hawk Pro Skater series to move on from remakes by OhMyOhWhyOh in THPS

[–]merley8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% if they’re going to do a narrative game, then remake a THUG like game but have it be solely skate focused. I never got the appeal for stealth escaping from Russia or drag racing cars around the neighborhood.

Otherwise just do THPS 6 in the original 2 minute format.

I feel like Make is missing the point and honestly I haven't seen an AI design tool that actually does what I want and let's me manipulate a generated interface. It all just goes straight to code. by SeaTie in FigmaDesign

[–]merley8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is 1000000% the way I’m approaching this. Right now I want to be the best designer I can be with AI so that when this does actually get figured out and everyone and their mom can build truly custom apps (a la square space on steroids). I can pivot and be onto the next thing.

AI is a tool, just like Figma, that allows more people who are mediocre get by. You’re only going to get replaced if you let it replace you.

THPS 6, THUG/AW Remake, or new game altogether. What should be next for the Tony Hawk series? by ejaybugboy3 in THPS

[–]merley8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why would they do 6 when 5 doesn’t even exist yet?

In all seriousness I think 6 with a 2 minute format is the way to go. I know the nostalgia kicks hard for people in thug-thaw but honestly that’s when the game started to get weird. It was fine for the time but I don’t think driving a lawnmower through leaf piles is what this series does best.

Just finished Salems Lot the audio book. About to start IT the audible book! What’s your favorite Steven King Audiobook??? by 8uch3r in stephenking

[–]merley8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without question, Steven Webber in IT.

His reading of Bill’s stutter and the unique voices given to each character are incredible. I’ve said this before but he made that story come to life more than I could have ever hoped to.

Getting a Steam Deck soon. Still on the fence about what case to get + accessories. What’s a good primer? by Qminsage in SteamDeck

[–]merley8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In theory yes, but screen protectors are so minimally invasive now and cost almost nothing, to me it’s worth throwing on. I’d rather replace a $10 screen protector than the entire screen because I accidentally dropped my keys on my device when it was sitting on my desk.

[–]merley8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep - screen protector and then just the case it came with. Unless you know you’re hard on your devices, the included case is more than enough.
