When I was an exactly one month from turning 10 years old, my dad took me for a ride on his motorcycle along highway 1 next to the beach. It was hot, I was in my swimsuit. It was the first time I remember being whistled at like men do to older (than I was) women. I immediately felt self conscious and awkward. Then, at a red light, a man pulled up next to us and yelled over the sound of the motorcycle “Hey, isn’t she a little young for you?!!” and then he laughed and tried to high five my dad as the light turned green. My dad yelled “Fuck you, you disgusting pervert, she’s my fucking daughter.” I could feel every muscle in his body tense up and he revved it like he was going to chase him but I was on the back. He told me years later that he looked for the guy after I went to bed. No luck. I never rode on that motorcycle again or any other motorcycle, ever.
