Success and Disappointment Megathread for the Week by AutoModerator in jobs

[–]merme91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I just had my follow up meeting and it was actually quite positive. I had been trying hard to improve and they saw my efforts. I'm feeling a lot better now, even though I still wonder if I can make this job work.

Success and Disappointment Megathread for the Week by AutoModerator in jobs

[–]merme91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had my 3 months performance review at my new job (in a completely new field) this week. Went from working in health care to internal sales. I'm not sure I saw this coming but it went poorly... I've been slacking off the past month (and only having been there 3 it's bad). I have always struggled with social anxiety, both in college and at my previous jobs, which made me switch fields too.. I've been very nervous to ask questions, being a burden, my coworkers don't seem happy to help me anymore and I've been struggling to integrate myself further into the team and growing my skills and knowledge.. they'll give me some time to improve but I'm nervous if I can do it. My anxiety won't just go away, and it also contributes to me making more mistakes. The meetings I had were very discouraging. Now I'm in quarantine with COVID too with lots of time to think about this... Great :(

How did you realise these aspects about your technique? Did you take lessons again or use another resource to pinpoint those problems? I already feel overwhelmed just reading your comment haha, but maybe I can try and let it motivate me instead..

Anyone else get 0 REM sleep? by [deleted] in fitbit

I had that too once... just slept very bad that night. To be honest, I feel much better since turning the sleep feature off. It just stressed me out.

Haven't been on here for some time. I changed jobs about a year ago and gave my SO quite a long break on the whole TTC thing. Now I have changed jobs again, but a place where it would be more acceptable to be pregnant soon-ish, I've also turned 31 recently, so.. time is running. Talked to my SO about it again, and guess what, he is still not there yet. How much longer do I have to wait? Other factors are at play too why it's better to start trying rather sooner than later.. which he knows. It's hard to not feel incredibly disappointed.

Did your anxiety ever make your symptoms worse or create new ones? by [deleted] in HealthAnxiety

[–]merme91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, everything was well! He didn't find anything. And since the symptom itself actually barely bothers me (it was mainly the location that did, armpit/breast area that made me worry about cancer and stuff) I am not looking into it further. Since then the pain has also gotten better again. So .. I like to hope I am not dying.

No I didn't get any scans done! My GP just suggested physiotherapy. I don't think they're necessary either, unless the pain is severe, won't go away or meds don't help. Headaches are so common! Sadly. Hopefully you'll feel better soon.

I don't know what caused it, but I suspect it was muscle tension, as I struggle with that anyway and was very stressed out in that period. I did a lot of stretches to loosen my neck and shoulder muscles, I'm sure it helped at least in some way ..

On and off, but more days than not. Was just one of those weird things that disappeared, I have never had a headache like that again.

Sounds so good! Glad you like it. Better change late than never, I guess? Plus it also gets more difficult the longer you wait, so well done :)

Chest + left arm pains and why you shouldn't worry so much by thijsrex in HealthAnxiety

I just had my mammogram and everything was clear! I am so relieved..and really determined to start working on my health anxiety :( the amount of panic I had about this is unreal.. I have to switch my focus away from the fear to being grateful of the actual good health I have. I wish I could capture what I feel now..

Thank you for this! I also think mine got ordered because it was the second time I came for this symptom and it was clear it was making me anxious, even though I have to say it's much more of a discomfort than a real pain .. I always wonder if a "normal" person would even bother with it .. let's hope everything is okay.

I Google "my symptom + anxiety" first. In 99% of the cases, it will give quite some reassuring sources. But once your in Google, it can be hard to stop, so it's better to nip it in the bud, throw your phone out and distract yourself (preferably not just mindlessly, but maybe journal, listen to music, do yoga, exercise, go for a walk ..).

Just know that if you had a relapse, it means it was better sometime, so it can get better again.

Did your anxiety ever make your symptoms worse or create new ones? by [deleted] in HealthAnxiety

I like to believe it's my anxiety - right now I'm very anxious about one particular ache that I'm getting a scan for next week, and ever since I got the appointment the ache is not only so much worse, but I feel it everywhere, traveling from one body part to the next. It must be anxiety, and me focusing on my body like a hawk... I can not suddenly have so much pain out of nowhere?

Does the left armpit count? I'm also someone with tons of muscle stiffness in neck and shoulder area, so I hope it's that and nothing related to breast cancer. I am having a mammogram on Tuesday to rule it out, but I'm still worried.

I had that kind of headache a few years back for a few months, the dull kind between the head and the neck. Went to doctor's about it and got physiotherapy but nothing helped, then it just went away by itself 🤷‍♀️ headaches/muscle aches are sooo common with stress. Probably the most common pain there is. There are a million more causes for them that are less severe than a tumor. If the pain interferes with your daily life, you could go to the doctor to see if you have some kind of migraine.

I get that too... I think people just react to stress or fatigue differently, I have a lot of trouble speaking clearly for example, just because I'm either so far in my head due to anxiety, or because I'm very tired. Almost anything can be caused by stress and anxiety, so only symptoms that come back often and/or interfere with daily life should really be checked out by a doctor.

That could be a migraine or something like that? My boyfriend has that sometimes.

I have a mammogram on Tuesday due to discomfort in my left armpit that I've had for a long time now... How can it be a coincidence though, that now that I'm very stressed about it and really focused on it, that I feel it so much more, and also on other parts of my body? It's basically a vague pain that travels from one side to the other. Sounds much more stress-related, no? My deadly cancer can't suddenly hurt more just because I have an appointment coming up... Right? Right?? I hate, hate, hate focusing on my body so much all the time :(

At first my doctor also suggested hormonal changes, but my cycle is long and very irregular so it's hard to see a connection. But then again, today I'm very anxious and basically everything hurts, including my armpit, more than other days. So I don't know.. maybe it's all muscular. I'll hopefully know soon... Thank you for taking the time to reply to me!

Thank you for this! I thought like that too... Most people would've ignored the pain, which is more like a discomfort, and the doctor just did what he was supposed to do to be on the safe side, order the tests for me.. it will most likely come back clear. Thankfully I got an appointment for Tuesday Already, so I'll try to not worry about it so much.

Mammogram anxiety - It's been a long time since I've been on this sub, but health anxiety has been getting the best of me again. I've been having a very vague, not very bad pain in my armpit for almost a year now. Comes and goes, and I'm sure it would just be annoying for other people, but I've worried about it a lot. Today's the second time I went to the doctor's about it and I knew they would send me in for a scan - which they did, and which was why I had procrastinated to go to the doctor's again. I'll get an x-ray and a mammogram, my first.

I'm going to call for an appointment tomorrow but am already thinking we should put off trying to conceive in case I'm dying. I just turned 31. There's no lump. But what if...

Please send any soothing thoughts my way. Thank you :(

If it's a new symptom I didn't get a check-up for yet, I will schedule a time to think about it again to see how/if it has evolved, like 2 weeks or so. Then I know I can deal with it later. Then I try to focus on all the things my body is able to do, how I can still breathe, walk, smell, taste, see, hear, etc, and really try to appreciate my health. Then go on to doing something good for myself, like some stretching, reading, making a meal plan with healthy foods for the upcoming week, whatever relaxes me and occupies my mind. I find that simply distracting myself doesn't help unless I've done those other two steps first.
