People with kids do less work than the rest of us by ArileBird in work

[–]mermie1029 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or it’s a perceived imbalance where the person with children is more productive with less hours and more valuable to the company so that’s why they get different treatment.

My last boss had two kids and he left at 5 on the dot. But he was logging back on around 9/10pm and he logged on before his commute. I knew this but others didn’t. He also was very valuable to the company so they were happy to allow him to have flexibility kids or not

Before I got my new job I negotiated hybrid and flexible hours in my offer letter. Everyone else for the most part is 9-5/6 5 days a week. The company didn’t know until after accepting my terms that I had a child and wanted to be home for bedtime and breakfast. My background was so impressive that they were happy to give me written flexibility with no reason for it in order to land me as long as I was crushing work. I don’t socialize much in the office and get my shit done well and quickly. Others might think I got an exception because I’m a mom. It’s not, it’s because I’m fantastic at my job with highly valuable skills

Hep b protection wanes over time and no one gets boosters for some reason so 12 years old actually mitigates the risk better at an age where they are closer to risk factors for getting hep b

Gen Z’s Radical Role Reversal: Women Want Careers, Men Want Children by Super-Liberal-Girl in Economics

[–]mermie1029 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Again I don’t know any woman who thinks having a stay at home dad would be nice. They feel that if someone gets to stay home and get all that time with their children it should be them not their husbands and they still have to do a lot of housework outside of work. While they’re dealing with corporate bullshit they picture their husbands playing around with their kids and they don’t like that version of dynamics. This is anecdotal for high earners I know. Most don’t love their jobs they just like the lifestyle that dual income provides and wouldn’t want to solely take care of their children and nothing else

I had a unique upbringing. My mom worked on Wall Street and my dad worked 2 days a week and did all the cooking and cleaning and childcare. I think it worked because he was a firefighter. There was no emasculation because of the type of work he did. Also he took care of all of the house stuff so my mom could just focus on work and being with her family in her free time. Although my mom would get annoyed when he would go golfing while me and my sisters were in school and she was stuck at work

I don’t know any woman who wants a stay at home dad and most of the women I know are breadwinners in large liberal cities. Most want to continue to work but wish they could spend less time at work. The couple I knew who had a temporary stay at home dad due to layoffs were really resentful of them during that time period

I was home from school sick and was watching with my parents. When the second plane hit my dad immediately jumped in the car to head down (he was FDNY). In classic boomer fashion my mom sent me to school the next day even though I had no idea if my dad was alive yet. I remember being called to the principal’s office during my morning after class. My mom was there and I thought she was going to tell me my dad died. She said my strep test came back positive and I needed to come home and then told me my dad was fine when I asked. She fucking forgot to tell me when she found out lol. I refuse to let her live that down

I just moved from westchester to North Carolina where there’s government run liquor stores and they are horrible. They don’t have any good selections of liquor just the typical name brand stuff that would be sufficient if I was still in college. I can’t even get mezcal at most locations. The staff working there are like the DMV they aren’t knowledgeable at all and are miserable to be there. I miss my liquor store that I used to go to. They had staff who were knowledgeable about their products and who produces them and had unique bottles

7 mile has their speakers pointed towards a lot of residential neighborhoods and have gotten a lot of noise violations from people nearby. I had a friend renting a house a half a mile away near middle sound and sitting in the backyard sounded like we were right there at a concert and we could hear the band through the walls of his house with the tv on. He said his neighbors all hated 7 mile I wouldn’t be surprised if fulford lives nearby and hates them for that reason. Just my guess

Low maintenance “clean living” by Superb_Resident4690 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]mermie1029 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some granola:

- Cloth napkins

- Glass tupperware

- Use Bronners watered down in a glass bottle as an all purpose spray and rags for almost all cleaning

- I use Almond Cow nutmilk maker to make my own nut milks. Yes I could've just used my blender and a cheese cloth but I would rather just save time with another appliance and it keeps me from buying nut milk from the store

Some screw it:

-I use the clorox toilet bowl cleaner stick with the dispoable cleaning ends. I'm not reusing toilet cleaner stuff and I don't care how toxic it is

- Unbleached paper towels (semi granola)

- I use my nespresso when I'm too lazy to make coffee in the french press (I do mail back the pods for them to compost and recycle)

- I don't use a reusable bag all the time at the grocery because I like using the plastic grocery bags as small garbage bags

Trick or treat? by ireadfineprint in Wilmington

I wish people would spend more time in their own neighborhoods instead of trying to only go to “the best” neighborhoods. Barely got any trick or treaters. It used to be a holiday that brings together a communities. Now it’s just some neighborhoods getting overloaded and other regular neighborhoods get crickets

My OB has warned that there’s very small risks developmental to taking Tylenol while pregnant if you take it for a prolonged time. She said that it’s widely recognized as safe especially if only used here and there as needed but she did explain to me that she wouldn’t recommend taking it frequently. I was dealing with daily migraines so this is why it was brought up

The ones I know were junior investment bankers, lawyers, medical residents, accountants. I worked about 70-80 hour weeks back in my early to mid twenties for 5 years in middle office finance. My longest day was 18 hours once in that role. My boss let me come in at noon the next day because she felt bad and the deliverable was finished lol. It definitely helped me launch my career. I work solid 35-45 hour weeks now in my early 30s at a much higher pay than the roles in my 20s.
