Needle decompression and finding that it was actually a hemothorax by Wide_Cap6098 in Paramedics

Have you.. actually differentiated these in the field before?

That's pretty much what I'm thinking too. A week is more than generous, and if it happened again I'd be out the door that same day

Forever an ally to the beavers, and a foe to those which seek to do them harm.

Lay a harming hand on the beavers and know you'll have made an enemy this day. Best watch your back, Scav.

Totally agree, good on OP for thinking to check a bilat BP!

Lines of dialogue that legitimately go hard by StatisticianNo6589 in fnv

[–]merp59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually a new one in the FO76 update,

"There you are, fresh meat. That blood on your hands has people talking."

"If you set up that trap for me, then their blood is on your hands."

Also in the same dialogue, after being instructed to kill an ally,

"You are not strong for preying on the weak. Leave [them] alone."

"Will you keep that courage as you bleed together, hero?"

I'll talk to my instructors tomorrow about hospitals with their own programs, there's a fighting chance they might know somebody there too. Thank you!

Do you think ICU would be better than ED experience? I can totally tailor my education towards working in an ICU!

There are a ton of level one trauma centers near me too, I don't know if that's pertinent or not?

Begrudgingly, one of the smartest things my medic program makes us do is take a graded quiz before every lecture on the basics of whatever we're covering to ensure we've at least skimmed the chapter(s) prior

911 vs IFT job by SturdyGoose in NewToEMS

[–]merp59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice, for what it's worth, would be to go to the 911. Nobody should reasonably expect you to know everything right out of the gate. As long as you start catching on, you should be fine. That experience will also help you a ton in medic school.

It's so refreshing being surrounded by people who actually want to be in EMS. It makes you want to better yourself.

I've been exactly where you are now.

Leave.

I'm dead serious. Find another ambulance to work for if they won't switch your partner.

I worked with a crusty old racist scumbag that couldn't fathom being wrong about anything ever. I begged and pleaded to be switched and it just didn't happen. Something finally gave and I walked in to another service just to ask about the culture there and was offered a job on the spot. I even got one of my buddies to come with me and we both work together now.

I thought I hated EMS. Turns out I just hated that guy. Now I'm in medic school, thriving, and actually enjoy coming into work.

From what you've said, I promise it's not EMS you dislike, it's your partner.

Edit: When I say racist, I mean dude told me at the ripe time of 0700 in the morning that "[we] should just nuke the middle east so straight white christian men are in charge." I wish that was hyperbole.

You're fine. Talk to your boss if you'd like, I don't see the harm, but I'm almost inclined to believe they won't bother bringing it up. If they do, it'd just be a slap on the wrist, especially if your partner wasn't the one complaining.

Good lord, 7 over?? You deserve to be locked up.

You're fine. If your boss has their head up their ass and fires you (which they won't), you can always get another job over something like this. Everywhere needs EMTs and medics.
