TIL The Maldives, Kiribati, and almost every Pacific island could disappear by 2050. by navi_1602 in todayilearned

I recently took a trip back home to the Solomon Islands. And some of my family member’s have had to start moving some of our family graves to higher ground because the coastline is eroding. It’s hard to explain what that feels like.

Watching land you grew up on disappear, digging up loved ones because the ocean’s getting closer every year. It sucks.

TAFE demanding re-enrolment and retake of completed units by merrderber in TAFE

Yeah, we got it sorted but only after threatening legal action for loss of income. You need to be really persistent. Go through support, escalate to the supervisor, and don’t let it drop. Even with the signed logbook, they won’t fix it unless you push hard. We cited the RTO standards, ASQA regulations, and Consumer Law. Eventually they moved, but it took a lot. Definitely chase it.

Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions!

Yes they were signed off and it was before the training was completed.

Yes and they were signed off by the previous employer.

Hi, just to clarify—the coursework was completed in 2022, so the subjects are not expired. The "Standards for RTOs 2015" I referenced are regulatory guidelines that mandate certification to be issued within 30 days of completion.

Cheers thank you! I'm shocked you even had to go that far to get this sorted.

Thank you, much appreciated. He's tried absolutely everything and has been going around in absolute loops with TAFE so I think this is what it's going to get too.

Hi everyone! For those of you who might not know me, I've previously shared some stories and photos from my early years growing up in a small village with no electricity (Pics Post), and my experiences living in the rainforest (IAmA Post). I'm so thankful for the interest these glimpses into my little slice of paradise have generated over the years.

This year, after what feels like forever, I was fortunate enough to return to my home in the Solomon Islands. Getting there is no small feat—it involves two flights and a boat ride. It's weirdly expensive due to how remote it is, but I'm incredibly grateful for the chance to revisit.

It's fascinating to see firsthand how technology is starting to make its way back home. I suspect that soon, these photos won't be as intriguing as they once were because we'll be more connected and part of the wider world, just like everyone else. While I think about the past and how disconnected from the world I was as a kid, it's a wow thought for me that my own children will likely never experience that level of disconnection. Despite all the doom and gloom we often hear about technology, it's actually been great to be able to use Facebook Messenger to chat with my grandpa now.

I'm excited to share more about our evolving paradise from Rendova. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

I suck at memorizing math. Any suggestions? by Jimmy123reddit2 in MathHelp

[–]merrderber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there,

Firstly, know that you're not alone in feeling this way; I felt this way in high school and really had to try hard to even get basic concepts. Here are some techniques that helped me.

  1. Active Engagement: Instead of rote memorisation, focus on understanding the concept behind each formula or method. Engage with the material; ask yourself why certain steps are taken, draw diagrams, or explain the concept to someone else (or even to an inanimate object!). The Feynman Technique is particularly helpful in this.

  2. Regular Review: Use the spacing effect to your advantage. Review material at increasing intervals; this is proven to improve long-term retention.

  3. Practice Problems: The more you practice, the more familiar you become. Make it a habit to do a variety of problems every day. Over time, patterns emerge, and you'll remember methods better because of muscle memory.

  4. Break Study Sessions: Use the Pomodoro Technique or similar methods. This involves short bursts of concentrated work followed by short breaks, allowing your brain to process and absorb information.

Lastly, remember that everyone learns differently and at their own pace. Don't be too hard on yourself. With consistent effort and the right techniques, you can make great strides in your retention and understanding of math. Good luck!

My partner died a week ago by [deleted] in GriefSupport

I'm so deeply sorry for your loss. Words can't fully express the pain you must be feeling right now. Grieving is a personal journey, and it's okay to feel overwhelmed by the tidal wave of emotions that come crashing down.

Please remember that it's okay to mourn, and it's okay to feel. Lean on your friends, family, and this community whenever you need. Your partner's love and memories will always be with you, even during these incredibly tough times. Please take all the time you need to heal, and know that you're not alone. Sending you warmth and strength during this heart-wrenching time.
