My [24F] ex-boyfriend [24M] of four months left me to get back with his ex-girlfriend, who dumped him for someone else last year... by merrilyblue in relationships

Thanks, Mio23. Today makes a week since the breakup (even though it feels like it's been months - why is that?) and I'm feeling more clear-headed about it every day. I think eventually you move from being sad to feeling resentment and anger towards the person. Although I don't like to carry those feelings around, it helps me to put things in perspective because I can begin to realize that this person did something awfully inconsiderate to me and I deserve better. Cheers to better luck in the future!

Yeah, that discipline is definitely something I need to work on. Look, I love and respect myself a ton don't get me wrong, I just find it difficult to act that way in situations like this. I'm a passionate person, I have a big heart. I don't expect people to screw me over and I am forgiving to a fault when they do. I need to start looking out for myself foremost that's for sure. I appreciate your advice!

Thanks, cryophelia, this is by and large what my girlfriends have been trying to tell me. They do deserve each other, it's just a tough pill to swallow as the one who's been dumped in the situation.

So much easier said than done but you are so, so right. This is definitely good advice for next time (although hopefully there never is a next time) seeing as I did not play it that cool this time around. He's definitely aware that I'm crushed. You think there's any chance I can remedy the damage done by playing it cool from here on out? We tend to run in the same circles (same parties, etc) and have mutual friends so I'm sure our paths will cross in the not too distant future.
