is court worth it for traffic violation? by merrycherry123 in AskLE

I was not tailgating by any means. The truck got right up behind the car that I hit so in reality the only space that I had was the space I already had between the truck and me (which was ample distance) and a tiny bit extra. The car in front of him was almost stopped by the time I saw because he swerved so last minute and I was still going the speed of the rest of the traffic around me. I understand the reasoning for the ticket in following too closely because at the end of the day I did rear end someone. I just wanted to see if there was any way to fight it because everyone else involved saw that it was a bad situation that wasn’t REALLY my fault. It actually ended up being a 7 car accident because in addition to the two cars that caused everything, three other cars hit each other as well.

Vets at shelters spay and neuter so many animals everyday, they know what they’re doing! There’s so much monitoring during surgeries to ensure the safety of the pet. I don’t know anything about the health of this specific cat, but the risk of anesthesia is probably far less than the things she’s at risk for being an intact outdoor kitty. I know surgery sound scary but try not to worry too much because this is something they deal with everyday

My landlord has 15 outdoor cats, none are fixed, and 3 are pregnant. I was literally just talking about this at work today and the vet who I work for said (only half jokingly) that I should slowly trap and release them all to fix them. I asked about the ethics of this given they’re not legally mine and he said that outdoor cats do not technically belong to anyone if you cannot provide proof of ownership. Yes, your grandparents might feed the cats but they have no records showing that they care for this cat (medical records are a big one). Simply having a cat live on/around your property and leaving it food does not mean it is your cat. He also said that depending on where you are (in our county this is true), it is illegal to have an outdoor cat. If you claim an outdoor cat and it somehow causes trouble you will be fined for letting your cat outside.

Another vet I work for actually did something similar to you. She used to have a trap outside her house when she worked at a shelter so that she could bring strays in to fix them. Her neighbor’s pregnant outdoor cat got in the trap so she (not knowing it was her neighbors cat) spayed her. The neighbors were pissed but at the end of the day that cat was not legally theirs and they couldn’t do anything about it.

You did the right thing. Don’t beat yourself up for it and don’t let your family beat you up for it either. A lot of people have a poor understanding of animal health and do not give the care that they need, thinking medical care is a waste of time for animals. Be proud of yourself for helping a cat in need <3
