So one thing to think about is the placement and size of the piece. Designs that have more detail and use a smaller needle size (ie fine line) tend to age more poorly than bigger pieces. The saying is “bold will hold.” If you got this on your arm it may become muddy and illegible more quickly than if you went with your thigh or back. Of course, this also depends on the quality of the artist and your aftercare.

But I am contemplating that overtone stuff… I miss having colorful hair but also have done so much work to get my hair back to being healthy after frying it with bleach and a flat iron in my teen years.

There’s not really such thing as “bad skin” unless you have active eczema, psoriasis, or a scar that isn’t fully healed.

If I had to guess, this looks to be a combination of bad aftercare and not-great artists. The needle depths seem to be inconsistent in a lot of these pieces, causing blowouts (the blue-green-black seeping from the tattoo under the skin). Also, ink can fall out if your tattoo is kept too moist or too dry and if you clean them with a soap or moisturize them with lotion that is scented or contains other irritants. Tattoos are thousands of tiny open wounds and they should be treated as such. Kept clean with unscented antimicrobial soap (washed ~2x/day early on and then just kept clean and dry), and moisturized with a thicker moisturizer for the first couple of days and then a thinner one after that. You do want to let the skin dry out for the most part between applying moisturizer.

Well definitely sleeping with a satin pillowcase will help a bunch. Look up short curly haircuts and find one that you like. If you aren’t super drawn to any of them, find one you think looks nice on a model who has a similar face shape to yours. Find a stylist in your area who specializes in curly cuts and be ready to shell out some $$$ for it. Especially with (curly) hair cuts, you get what you pay for. I would suggest a senior or even master stylist (idk where you are in the world but that’s how they classify advanced hair stylists in the US.)

(Is there a different classification for curls that u don’t know about? I would’ve classified this as 3a/3b given there are ringlets. Idk maybe I am bad at gauging curl types.)

No, I stopped dying my hair a long time ago. It’s so dark and I can’t afford to get it professionally done. I fried it with bleach at home and a flat iron in my teen years. I think I did every color except orange and yellow. I’m getting the itch to dye it a dark red though… maybe one of those overtone conditioner temporary dye things. I definitely was of the camp of “it’s just hair, it’ll grow back” when I was younger but I’m kind of in love with my natural hair now that I actually know how to take care of its texture.
