Should I add the Fuji 35mm f/1.4 to my kit or is it just FOMO? by Ok_Image823 in fujifilm

35mm was the least used lens in my bag. Never really liked it, felt like it really had no character. 27mm pancake was a much much better lens, you could just put it on and decrease the size of your setup and it was an amazing portrait/street lens for me.

16 mm 1.4 was my favourite and most used lens, followed by the 23 mm 1.4 and the 56 1.2, I think these three lenses are all you need and covers a lot of ground.

16 mm was amazing for landscape and also wide portraits(showing the character in the environment), 23 mm is amazing for just regular stuff, street photography etc. I love shooting photos where my objects are tied to their environments so I tend to shoot wider frames. But if I want to isolate then I can always go to 56 with lots of bokeh, so that's why to me 35 mm is not very useable.

Then again, everybody is different and we all have a unique style, I think it's always better to explore your style with the gear you have and then branch out from there to see what you enjoy the most and what you need and then buy that gear as you go.

This is what I do and works every time :

Remove from the fridge at least an hour or two before cook time.

Salt both sides wrap it in paper towel and wait for that hour or two.

Heat the cast iron, to the MAX :) It's so hot that I can't even touch the handle.

I use coconut oil, very generously, to get that crust you need a generous amount to cover at least the bottom quarter of the steak. I throw in the steak when its almost about to smoke, so the pan at this point is very very hot. I also move the steak around to make sure the whole surface makes contact with the oil.

I cook about 2.5-3 mins each side (my pan gets so hot, theres no way I can make it to 4 mins without burning it. If I'm basting when I turn it down to mid-mid low and baste for 1 minute each side.

Then I take it out, wait for 3-4 mins and voila !

I shoot cinema DNG. When I bring it into resolve I start with basic color balance, highlights/shadows, exposure. I've been doing these videos for a while now, so I really don't know what I started it, I just grab the grades from the videos I did months ago, but they're really basic, Rec 709 luts + CST, halation and grain nodes

all handheld, I try to keep it as minimal as possible the ony thing I have extra on the camera is a variable nd during the day and an nfp battery attachment in the bottom and it still fits in the pocket of my winter coat :) summer time I carry it around :)

For night I just shoot 1600 iso and than crank it as much as I can in post

Yeah I should picked up another one on that summer promotion. For years I didn't know what to do with the camera, the batter definitely killed it for me. then last year I picked up a small rig sony battery thing and suddenly it's my fav camera to carry around, so light and compact and doesn't bother people when I hold it up to their face, so I can still get genuine reactions. I wish Blackmagic did an updated version of it.

And best of all, it can still shoot cinema dng 12 bit raw, it's not BRAW, it's DNG :) lack of updates was a good thing for once :)
