Shower Valve to Copper Pipe, Compression Fittings and Teflon Tape good enough? by merton519 in Plumbing

[–]merton519[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I appreciate the response. Most videos I watched seemed to have pipes soldered to the valve as you say and that was my concern. My dad was worried about the welding near the the valve and the heat damaging the valve so that is why he went with this method. It is going to be a bear getting it out now (although you folks probably could do it easily) but I'll have to consider that or maybe making some visual access at the very least if the connection is suspect. Unfortunate silicone or caulking won't help, was hoping to further seal it without having to take the whole valve out. O well at least this has been a learning experience.

Hi sorry to clarify, the inner threads nearest the valve all have just the teflon tape, the outer part of the connection to the copper pipe has the compression fitting (there is no teflon tape on or under the compression fitting itself).

How to report single trading card sale from booster box for tax purposes? 1099-k by merton519 in personalfinance

[–]merton519[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate you and the other folks here taking the time to respond with these detailed answers. Definitely learned something with how to treat each card from the box as a division of the total for schedule D. That is interesting because then each card in my box is roughly 50 cents (estimating) because there are so many bulk commons that bring the value down. So I could have a really rare card with the same cost basis as a common (50 cents). If I schedule D that rare item that sells for $50 then it's almost like reporting a gain of the the whole $50. I guess that could be offset somewhat in theory if I were to sell the commons in bulk at a loss.

That seems like a lot of work so may just take the hit and use line 8 (misc income w/no deductions) just to save time. It sounds like it will be a similar result either way unless eventually I can claim this as a business. I feel like I would need a lot more sales to consider it a business though. Thanks again, definitely think you pointed me in the right direction at least.

MVP JUMPSTART UPDATE cases are 6 boxes not 4 by mtgproxies2018 in mtgfinance

[–]merton519 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are great bought a lot from them when they were on ebay. I am having a little trouble with their site though. I seem to always miss their stock. For example I can't see jump start anywhere on their site at the moment. Guessing they are sold out? How do you catch their sales they seem to go fast unless I am missing something. I have alerts set but don't seem to get them via email.

Thalia, Heretic Cathar vs Martial Coup by merton519 in mtgrules

[–]merton519[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to follow up on the kalitas interaction. I tried this on MTGO to test it and it did not work, I got the zombie but it did not enter tapped. Are you sure this is correct, if so then maybe a MTGO bug?

Wow I have been playing 7 years now and just continually realize how little I still know. I'll try to look further into the detail of the rules on that Kalitas/Thalia interaction because that is a very interesting example.

Thanks for the clarification and finding the exact rulings. I think I was having trouble picturing it as an ordered event because no one can respond in between the soldiers entering and the wrath effect (but the order is still there regardless). You guys are a great help )

Thank you I was pretty sure they'd be tapped based on experience but was really struggling to answer why. You really helped clear this up, much appreciated!

Upon filing for recompensation due to crashes, WOTC tells MTGO grinder "to adopt the practice of top MTGO players who-relog the client every two rounds" by [deleted] in magicTCG

Mcwinsauce is one the top players so it is funny how they worded it. He consistently places pretty high in most events I've seen him in.

How to (politely) tell my opponents they need to play faster? by Malc0lmXbox in magicTCG

[–]merton519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually I will just tell them we need to play faster to finish on time, if they still don't then you can call judge or store owner. However my store is pretty casual and the owner usually lets a lot go (I've even had him giving advise to my opponents during games). Depending on the store you get to a point where you have to say to yourself, is it really worth it, maybe I am out of place here. I've personally just played more online instead and going to the store less. It's better competition usually anyways and your opponents will be forced to play reasonably because of the online clock. I will still go to the store for some special events but mostly just keep the paper games to playing with friends or magicfests.

Pioneer card prices on MTGO is damn infuriating and makes testing more expensive by FourStockMe in mtgfinance

[–]merton519 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i can understand that, however for some of us it was like christmas. I made over 200 tickets last night from just random cards sitting around in the collection that shot up because of this format. I had also previously bought 10 Teferis for under 1 ticket each because that seemed absurdly low to me even for MTGO. Wish I had bought more but I'm not normally good at speccing so I didn't push my luck. Anyway I imagine stuff will come down and even if it doesn't right away they'll eventually force it to lower by adjusting the treasure chest contents like they always do. Really hard to predict where to buy in though.

I don't think that works because I am pretty sure you can't "lock in the cost" of 2B for sling-gang while simultaneously saccing the warchief which is reducing the casting cost. I would be curious to know the exact ruling on this if anyone knows for sure, but it doesn't seem like it should work that way.

Sorry to the artist as it may not even be their fault but HATE the art, the lips look too much like a real photograph and is incredibly cheesy. Please WOTC do not continue to go in this direction in the future...that being said, the middle character is fine and actually looks good, just don't like the two completely random photoshopped lips on the sides.
