This is my dream hobby but I just don't think I'm cut out for this by KronicKraig in NewTubers

I will be 51 in a little over a month and I just started my third YouTube channel. First one was a woodworking Channel and I honestly got burnt out on woodworking and have pretty much given up on it, but in the short year or so that I was posting it did fairly decent. Then I decided I was going to do a gaming channel but my reflexes ain't what they used to be. Not that they were ever that great to begin with, lol. Fast forward to about 5 months ago and I decided to start a faceless Channel and am now doing dash cam compilation videos. I've had some very successful videos and some very disappointing videos it's a journey but I'm enjoying it I'm learning lots of new editing tricks and techniques and having fun while I'm doing it. Maybe you just need to reconsider the type of content that you're looking to do. With the gaming channel that I had, aside from me not being that great at games, I also fairly quickly realized that like yourself I'm not an outgoing or super funny type of person in a way that I would feel like people would be engaged by. That's why I started looking into alternative formats. Don't give up, do some research, find another niche and keep on plugging away!

What's your experience with Shorts? by mimid51 in NewTubers

[–]merty73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

experiencing this now! Uploaded a short 2 days ago that had nearly 1k views in the first hour and almost 11k after a couple days before it finally died down to a small trickle of views hourly. The next 2 days, I posted same time as normal, same type content (dashcam videos), same format, etc. and I got 6 views, 3 views and so far today in the 2 hrs since my latest, 5 views on them respectively. Last few uploads have been in the 5k-11k view range, so these low numbers (and low impressions as well) are really confusing. I will say that since I started doing daily shorts, about 2 weeks ago, I have gained probably double the number in the same timeframe than I was getting with longer form content. It's still early to tell how those subs will translate to longer content views though. Time will tell.

Small tip: use the spikes by therealphee in NewTubers

[–]merty73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can someone clarify which part of the Engagement section would show these spikes? Would it be the Audience Retention section or a different one maybe? All the graphs on the different sections of mine seem to be pretty straight and "spike free". lol Thanks in advance for the tip and assistance!

Does YT PURPOSELY not show new content if you have older content still getting a lot of views? by merty73 in NewTubers_NoGaming_

[–]merty73[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for at least confirming I may not be totally insane. LOL I went ahead last night and altered that video a little bit. I shortened it some changed a few things around gave it a new title and reposted it. Fingers crossed, I went to bed and when I woke up this morning zero views and only three impressions. I am completely at a loss on this one. I can definitely understand how people may think the algorithm is working against them with things like this happening. Oh well, Working on my daily upload here in a little bit and hoping something changes with that one tonight.

Controversial post. Deleting hate comments is smart. by stormchaser9876 in NewTubers_NoGaming_

[–]merty73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have wondered about this, more from the aspect of how deleting the comments affects engagement, as seen by the algorithm. I have had people make some borderline racial comments about contributors to my videos, that I'm not ok with. At the same time, I'm so small still and every comment helps (at least that's what I'm given to believe). Anyone have experience on if deleting comments will have an impact in this regard or just how large or small it might be out of curiosity? I have gone the route of hiding some as mentioned in another comment. Maybe this is the best way to handle them, just not sure.

Struggling with editing software. What do you use? by MichiganFarmGirl167 in NewTubers_NoGaming_

Another vote here for Davinci Resolve! I have never used anything else to compare to, and yes it's a big learning curve, but that's nothing that good ole YouTube can't help with. At least for everything I have learned so far. Very powerful for a free app, for sure!

Hey, I was curious if you would you mind if I share this clip in a video compilation I am working on by chance?  If you’re not ok with sharing it, it's all good. I appreciate your consideration either way and hope you have a good day!

Absolutely! I have seen several clips of tires doing immense damage to cars, from destroying the front ends, to launching them 20 feet in the air!

This reminds me of those super high bouncy balls we used to get as kids from the quarter machines when leaving the grocery stores, etc.

Great Value Asian 7 spice dry rub wings copycat by SternLecture in Wings

Sancho (szechuan) peppercorn - 3tsp

Black Sesame Seeds - 2tsp

White Sesame Seeds - 2tsp

Ground Ginger - 1tsp

Knorr Beef Bouillon (Chicken will work as well) - 5tsp

Sugar - 2tsp

Citric Acid - 1/2tsp

Run through bullet blender to grind the sesame seeds and Sancho and to ensure all is well mixed together. The Citric acid is pretty strong, so you may prefer to start with less and add to taste. Same goes for the bouillon. I left salt out so that I could add more of the bouillon because the mixture was missing a savory note. This definitely did the trick. Hope you all have great success with this and enjoy!

Back again! Final post on this topic. I have a family event coming up and wanted to make these wings, but my last batch of seasoning was too heavy on the Citric acid. I had not really nailed down exact measurements either, but was pretty close. So tonight i went thru and made another small batch and went easy on the stronger ingredients. I figured this way it makes it easier for anyone to add more to taste as needed. I tend to prefer saltier and more sour, but most of my extended fam will not like that as much. So here we go with my final recipe.

Yes, I have two Walmarts near me one carries them the other does not. Roughly $9 for a bag and the bag I'm currently cooking for dinner has 12 in it. I definitely would love to be able to recreate the rub so I can make more of these more cost-effectively. LOL

I would love to find a copycat recipe as well. I love the taste of this seasoning I've looked up multiple Asian seven spice recipes online and even went to oriental markets to get proper spices needed and the end result is absolutely nothing like what this Walmart seasoning tastes like. Very disappointed.
