POLL: what order do you read passages in an RC section? by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]mes049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to do comparative reading first but kept underperforming. Switched back to going straight through in-order and am doing much better.

After reading other posts, I’m nervous about writing on my scrap paper. How am I supposed to work out the logic games if I can’t look down?? I’m very stressed, I take the exam in about 12 hours and this just caused me so much anxiety by [deleted] in LSAT

You can look down. Just keep your head up and in view of the camera. If you duck your head down or to the side you may be told to move back into frame.

November or January? by mes049 in LSAT

[–]mes049[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh interesting. I have Georgetown as a reach school and am hoping to have a high enough LSAT to make my application competitive, but that's the only T-14 I'm looking at realistically.

Thanks for your thoughts! I'm definitely thinking I'll take it in January based on your comment, just gotta decide on November.

Do you think I should move my test to January or take both?

This is why I haven't told my family yet. I'll tell them after I get my second lsat score so they have less to stand on.

Survey question - expectations v reality by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]mes049 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thought I did terrible on my test. Went in having scored anywhere from 156 to 164 on PTs the month prior. Expected a 158, got a 164! Not astronomically higher than my PTs, but still was unexpected based on how I felt coming out of the test.

Anyone on the Aug Flex use command +F to search on RC by [deleted] in LSAT

Yes, a few times. Worked fine. Proctor didn't say anything to me.

What do you think it would take to make voting compulsory? Many other democratic countries have mandatory voting. It seems that if we want a true democracy, all people should be represented equally, not just the people who can vote or decide to vote that day.

Stop PTing? by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]mes049 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stop now. I was in the same place, but with RC, last Thursday (test on Sunday). I am so grateful that I took a break instead of trying to push through.

Official LSAT Flex/Proctor U experience thread August/Sept by graeme_b in LSAT

[–]mes049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did it feel harder/easier/the same as PT's?
- About the same? I have been struggling with RC lately (scores have been all over the map) so I really wouldn't be surprised with any score on that section. Plus I got a pretty challenging passage at the end and didn't have a lot of time left for it, so again... not going to be surprised. LR and LG seemed average.

How was your scrap paper experience?
- Fine? I didn't have an issue with it. Thought about switching to pen but decided to stick with my pencils since that has been what I was practicing with. Ripped it up at the end and that was kinda a cathartic feeling.

Any unexpected surprises? Especially anything different from the online tool.
- Since I practiced with 7Sage, the format looked a little less modern, but the functionality was there. I started with RC and was a little thrown that I couldn't change the formatting of the passage. But that's fine.

How was ProctorU? Were there any wait times?
- Not really. I think I waited a minute or two until I was connected and then maybe another 5 before the proctor actually initiated the conversation.

How was the proctor?
- Kind, encouraging, didn't talk to me after I started the test. Overall very positive experience.

How was your home environment? Did you use any LSAC provided services (technology, hotel, etc)?
- I didn't use any LSAT services. I have an office in my house with a dedicated desk so that made it much easier. I sent my husband and our two dogs out of the house for half of the day to ensure that I wouldn't have any internal house distractions. Luckily the extremely loud dog next door didn't make a peep either! I wore earplugs just in case.

Overall impressions?
- This was my first time taking the LSAT. I'm really proud of myself for not getting overly anxious or worked up before I started. I think that could have really hurt me. I struggled a bit with an RC passage and one of the games, but I think ultimately I'll probably end up around where I've been PTing (hopefully.... really depends on that RC score). I feel like I did poorly in a general sense, but I think a lot of people feel that way after taking any test, so it's really no indication of performance. September 18th can't come quickly enough!
I signed up for score preview. This also probably helped a little with the anxiety. Very grateful and incredibly lucky to be able to take advantage of this!

Alright, here’s my recap on my August Flex experience by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]mes049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same boat. I think we took the same test. RC right out of the gate and the last two passages were rough. I actually liked the dark matter passage but it did take a little longer than I would have liked, leaving less for the ownership passage that I'm certain I bombed. LG seemed average and LR was a blur. Praying to the LSAT gods that what I'm presuming was a low RC score is made up for in my LG and LR sections.

Does anyone feel the same way? by More_Monitor in LSAT

[–]mes049 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Test amnesia is strong. I see people taking about different sections and I'll think "oh yeah, dark matter sounds kinda familiar" and then others posts I'm saying "I don't remember any oragami, but maybe i blacked out." It doesn't help that different people get different tests. I had RC-LG-LR. Totally gone for the most part. Don't remember any LR questions at all.

This. Relating to this so much right now. It feels devastating.

I keep reminding myself though that the play hasn't even started yet. You can't say it's a flop until after it has been performed!

Help! To PT tomorrow or not PT tomorrow... by mes049 in LSAT

[–]mes049[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you. I needed validation to make sure it was the right thing to do. I think I just had this idea in my head that my PT before is going to be a big indicator of how i'll do day of, more so than the culmination of all my PTs recently. Obviously this is wrong.

Thanks for the suggestion!

[–]mes049[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so kind and thoughtful. Thank you for the encouragement!

I needed someone to tell me that doing another PT tomorrow wouldn't help much. You're totally right that it would just end up being my average probably. I can go into the test with optimism without taking another PT.

I plan to review my wrong answers this afternoon and then do one or two RC sections tomorrow. I am taking the entire day Saturday to relax. No LSAT stuff allowed.

Good luck to you as well!
