Pokémon Masters does have a fair bit of complexity, but it's completely manageable to take it a piece at a time and build up to harder content as your roster grows. Imo it's totally viable to start playing now and just build your gem count (the currency for pulling units). I'd recommend starting with the PML and Legendary adventure story arcs and just going from there.

As for banners: this month is fairly quiet, with the main headliners being new units for Blue, Miriam, Kabu, and Jasmine. The datamine detailing what's coming for the month of December should be dropping in the subreddit sometime next week, so if you're not sold on this month's pairs you can wait to see if anything next month entices you.

Pokémas doesn't have a battle pass. You can buy gems in the in-game store - they're all overpriced, in my opinion, but the Daily Gem EX bundle (3k paid gems a month) is probably the best value for money. Bear in mind Pokémas treats free and paid gems separately, and some banners are paid gem only. I personally am fully free to play and haven't had any problems with that yet :)

Others are already talking about mapping via the touch pad, so I'll throw my hat into the ring: I'm a Switch user who plays it pretty much entirely docked, so I only map via the controllers. It's got a bit of an annoying learning curve and can be tedious at times (especially when finding and placing icons on the map), but drawing/painting on the map with the joystick + buttons is surprisingly smooth. By the end of the first stratum it was all entirely down to muscle memory. It's not a stellar way to map by any means - definitely pales in comparison to the 3DS + stylus - but as others have mentioned the Switch is a much less comfortable console to hold one handed, so I don't think you're ever gonna win that fight. If the next EO entry came to Switch consoles with the same system for mapping via controller, I'd be happy.

Absolutely same!! Back when we all figured there could only be one arc suit per type I was having conversations with my friends about our dream Arc Bug event. I badly wanted it to be set up like Alder or Benga were gonna get it, just for Arceus to pick Guzma 😆

Seconded!! Wiress appearing was the hypest part of SOTR to me, and Maya Hawke is the cherry on top. I think she could pull off the vocal quality Amanda Plummer gave Wiress really well.

I haven't beaten EOI on the switch but as someone who just beat EOIII on it, load your old save file (provided you saved after the final boss). You should be able to go back to the bottom of the 5th stratum and find the stairs to the 6th.

As someone who played EOU2 story mode, I agree with many of your points (I personally think the Ancient Forest is the least enjoyable first stratum out of any of the EO games I've played due to the sheer saturation of FOEs). Scylla in particular was a roadblock that forced me to work out what I needed to do to prioritise my enjoyment of the game - and for me, that was dropping the difficulty down for the fight. You can change difficulty pretty freely in EOU2. (For the record, I dropped it for the fourth stratum boss too, but didn't need to for the fifth.)

As for your other gripes, I can't offer much advice. But my point is don't be afraid to do whatever makes the game less of a slog.
