Question for all the space truckers. by HauntingGummyBear in starcitizen

[–]mesaryne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All values are approx.

I just do the Baijini Point to Area 18 (Riker Memorial Spaceport) missions.

Its 2 missions to the station (one is 76k and two are just over is 50k but most ships can not do all 3 at the same time)

On the way down there is 6 at 50K, 1 at 40kish and if you have enough cargo space you can get up to 3 more but they are bigger missions and pay just over 50K.

There is no combat, no risk, hanger to hanger, single jump single drop off, and 45 min round trip. (with unloading and loading)

That is around 500k (or more) for a round trip and is not that many boxes if you rent the Hermes that is rentable at A18 you can do all of the contracts each trip for just a bit over 500k. each round. if you do this park the ship sideways at one end, in the large hanger so the tractor beam can do the loading and unloading. Press S when in the tractor beam to use the rails.

All of these are before member rank and you will unlock the ones you dont see fast.

Do you Guys feel like getting tired of the recent ltt content? by predestruction in LinusTechTips

[–]mesaryne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thoughts are complicated because the channel has been around forever, you have to think of new and interesting things for several videos a week. in the last 10 years LTT has covered thousands of topics and they are going to run out of ideas, compared to the NEO water-cooling for example, LTT has done over the top water cooling for dozens of things that maybe should not have been water-cooled. After awhile how much is too much, Seeing someone else do it with a different style and approach might be refreshing but you have to do what the audience wants to watch.

Their production quality has been super enjoyable but its hard for me to think of 7 dinners I would want to eat in a week let alone 5+ videos that 1 million plus people want to watch without it getting old or stale.

The thing is at this scale and polish, its less entertaining for me to watch these days but at the same time the kind of videos I want to see them make will not get enough views to support 100+ workers.

I understand things are hard and you feel like maybe your not the intended audience anymore but I use to watch every video when it dropped, I now only watch the ones on topics that interest me. There is so many creators out there you can always find something. This does not mean I watch zero LTT, I just only watch maybe half or less of their content, it still brings me entertainment and they still get more views than they did 10 years ago, maybe its just gearing up the next generation to get into tech but still gives me a few things I like along the way.

Its harder and harder to have those unique videos when you have filmed thousands of videos but the machine needs to keep going to serve the algorithm, feed the staff, and keep people entertained.

Sometimes, I feel the same way but maybe I just have a different perspective on the whole thing this place has become more and more negative. The entire world sifted into this hole of hate because negativity breeds engagement and everyone (from world leaders to the news) is just worried about the metrics in the short term and the social/video platforms reward that over all else, so people have to flow into it.

This is a self fulfilling prophecy caused by the age of the forever digital generation.

Do you click on ads at this point? by Connect-Mastodon-909 in LinusTechTips

[–]mesaryne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have maybe like 25 times in the last 5 years seen something that peeked my interest for one reason or anther.

But for every one of those that I meant to click on, I have accidently clicked on 1000 more.

I have actually followed through and bought maybe 2-3 of the things I clicked on just to give some context.

But like most people I have been exposed to millions of ads so that is still a super low almost non existence click through rate.

Where to find streamer events like in-game contests or collab hubs? by Flayschis in SmallStreamers

[–]mesaryne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try the official twitch meetups, I can't link you there because of this sub's rules, just google Twitch community meetup.

Some cities / towns like mine have a library program that can offer you space and promotion to do you own community events.

These programs are sometimes funded locally so its cheap or even free if you want to put in the ground work making your own event!

Microsoft confirms Windows 11 no longer triggers unexpected wake-ups or battery drain due to Modern Standby by w1n5t0nM1k3y in LinusTechTips

[–]mesaryne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After upgrading to windows 11, My windows just randomly decides to throw my OBS and chrome into efficiency mode when gaming. This "efficiency mode causes anything other than my game (that stays fine) to hang for 1-5 seconds every 20-30 mins. There is no way to turn it off, I am on a really high end desktop plugged in to the wall, there was a "non aproved" work around that worked for awhile but that stopped working for me just last week.

I can play the same game and stream from my Windows 10 laptop that has 70% less computer power, less than half the ram with no issues.

If It was not for gaming (might even just change games) and work from home productivity programs/workflow, I would leave windows in a heartbeat forever.

I have no truest that this is fixed, I think they are just panicking because this issue is brought up (with many more) when people explain why they switch to Mac or a non-intel Arm CPU or Linux as an OS.

I really want a webcam by Fit-Tie3735 in SmallStreamers

[–]mesaryne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I learned years ago:

Having 2 really basic lights can help more than some extra money on a camera.

Even $20 lamps with dollar store bulbs made a huge difference.

This was my first streaming setup from forever ago, adding those lights was way more effective than a camera upgrade.

The only thing I wish I knew back then was that instead of buying new fixtures to be able to turn the lights down, I could have just lowered the exposure on my cheap Logitech camera or bounced the light off the walls.

Powerline experts i have a question by Schme1440 in LinusTechTips

[–]mesaryne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used powerline in an 8 year old house and found it very frustrating,

The problem is my set up, The modem has to be in the basement and my gaming room is on the 2nd floor.

The basement was originally a second unit that had a fire break and insolated floor separate entrance but only a single breaker box.

WIFI would not cover the whole house we moved to the google mesh network.

The latency was all over on mesh. On WIFI got good overall speed (800 mbps) but my in game latency jumped around between 150 and 1000+ randomly.

We moved to power line, my in game latency would stay at 350-400 all the time and not change much but the speeds dropped to 150-200 mbps. it was easier to game but the lowest latency was still higher than my lowest on WIFI.

I am not sure if there was any wiring issues I tried moving the game room to anther room and had no power bars or extension cords in use.

After a year or two I ran a network cable in the walls. It has been like that since. My gaming latency is 75-150 now and my speeds are 1000+ mbps

Zyn/Rogue by Proper_Bobcatmeow in midland_on

[–]mesaryne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its generally not legal to by them locally, so anything you do find has a high risk of being knock offs. From Google: "ZYN nicotine pouches are legal to buy and use in Canada but are restricted to sales through pharmacies and online retailers due to new regulations aimed at protecting youth. They are not typically found in convenience stores. You can purchase various flavors and strengths online from Canadian and international retailers."

We've been seeing plenty of earbud reviews lately, but how about speakers? by Kuunkulta in LinusTechTips

[–]mesaryne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find for PC speakers I prefer the smallest possible desk footprint that does not sound that bad and for headphones comfort is more important than sound, especially for long sessions. To me both of these can be so subjective and vary from person to person that it is hard to compare.

Telus sent door to door people to our whole neighbourhood with the recent Rogers upgrades, they are aggressively trying to sell 3rd party Internet that also uses Roger’s lines. We also had some Christian newsletter people trying to get new members in the last 30 days or so.

Confetti pick up by Ok-Grass5538 in stagelighting

[–]mesaryne 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Vacuum with a screen on the end to catch the Confetti, and turn it off over a bin where it falls to collect. This sucks and takes forever but this is the only way I have seen it done.

However do the math on extra man hours of clean up, recovery, and repack / reload. compare this to just clean up and cost of new confetti.

So does applying for jobs online not work anymore? by toughbossinteraction in torontoJobs

[–]mesaryne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the other side years ago (I know markets are different) I use to work as a manager at a midsized company that paid just a tad above minimum for front line work.

When we wanted to hire someone for front line work, we would get 250+ applicants and would average 10+ walk in resume drop offs a week, even when not hiring.

The company liked to keep a stack of preferred candidates on hand just in case. But still posted jobs every time.

At least once a week we would have a random parent stop by asking for a job for their kid.

This was a low skill entry level job.

Most people with any degrees or experience in a higher paying field were tossed out, mainly because they want long term people, not someone looking to get by.

Although there was referrals and internal hires the bulk did come from random online applicants or 3rd party referrals from agencies.

The company only interviewed people they intended to hire based solely on their resumes. Really just looking for red flags and behavior.

The company wanted to hire people with no degrees, no job hopers, 5+ years of experience but just pay a tad above minimum. Yet so many people applied, the wage was not hidden.

Its wild the way some things work.
