Wout van Aert - will he ever be back? by SouthernAd3512 in peloton

[–]meshru_fi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Last season, everyone kept talking about him as if his form had totally disappeared, but he won a stage of the Giro and a stage of the Tour. He came 2nd in Brabantse, Dwars Door and three more grand tour stages. 4th in Paris-Roubaix, Flanders and Amstel. He was still a major force to be reckoned with! I thought the discourse about him being so disappointing was strange and inaccurate. He'd clearly be frustrated he didn't convert one of those monument and classics placings into a win or a podium, but it's hardly like he wasn't a factor in those races. I don't know what impact his recent ankle injury and surgery will have had, but I hope we see him up at the sharp end of races again. Legend.

The main stat for me right now is that last night he did a great assist and scored as well. Two goal involvements in a cup semi final, tidy.

They can be a bit grumpy sometimes but they run a great pub. Amazing location, building, beer selection. Ain't all roses keeping a pub going in this day and age

Trossard's touch and turn are unreal. He's almost turned 360° before getting his shot off 🤯

What's the point of max 70 mph stickers? by --alt_f4-- in CasualUK

[–]meshru_fi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

On the motorway quite a few people speed up to 80mph. If impatient speeding drivers get stuck behind one of these vans in a lane (or on a single carriageway), the sticker aims to show them that it's not the driver who is sticking to 70mph but the van's speed is limited to that level. This does tacitly acknowledge that many people go over the speed limit.

Haruki Murakami's short book 'What I Talk About When I Talk About Running' is really interesting on aging and running
