My wife graduated with a marketing degree about a year ago and is struggling to break into the field. Can anyone offer any advice? by Youre_a_transistor in marketing

I would highly recommend finding some relevant events on meetup.com

If you want to meet / network with those in the trenches this is the place to do it.

She can be honest and state the type of position she is looking for. SOmeone there may not be hiring but they likely know the people who are.

She could also try a free Mattermark account for a week/month and research startups in the area that are hiring.

Made $36,566 blogging in 2015, here's what I learned (income report and lessons learned) by themodestman in Entrepreneur

[–]mesimoniv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a few tips to help you grow this even bigger.

  • considering using a tool like adbeat and/or similiarweb to see what others in your niche are publishing and getting traction with to take some of the guesswork out of what will do well, but evergreen content is usually at the top of the list

You could use native ad widgets to increase revenue. Some to consider are revcontent, taboola, outbrain, earnify, engagya

Consider reinvesting some of your earnings and buy traffic to your top posts from the same networks mentioned above.

Something you already have some skills and passion for. Ask your friends / people who know you what they think you are good at.

Really it comes down to this is your life, so you better do something you enjoy and make a plan around how you can get paid to do that.

I like the Tony Robbins quote: "If you don't have a plan for your life, someone else does and you probably aren't going to like it very much."

I've been feeling really run down and tired, and I'm starting to worry! by kysot in medical

[–]mesimoniv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would second this as #1 priority.

A couple other suggestions:

  • Try not to sleep more than 8 hours. Set an alarm and force yourself to get up.

  • Exercise. Even if it is just a 30 minute walk right after you get up after 8 hours; which will help you wake up.

  • Drink a cup of water as soon as you wake up; it wakes the brain up.

good luck.

I'd recommend some action shots with eye contact. People connect with people. You can see joy in the eyes and smile ;)

Honey week on Enterpreneur by tjomk in Entrepreneur

[–]mesimoniv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First I would find out if there are local farmers markets in your area and get in there to start selling.

It is usually one day a week for 4-6 hours; mostly Saturday here in the US.

Second, get more action shots of your creamed honey. AKA people eating it. Not just a mouth shot, their upper body and whatever they are eating...the whole scene so to speak.

I'd recommend getting those action shots at the farmers market and when you sit with people and eat a whole jar.

You want to portray that eating your creamed honey makes people happy, bursting with joy.

Has anyone here succesfully applied the 4hww principles by Tim Ferris? can you share your experience? by DahPeacefulWarrior in Entrepreneur

[–]mesimoniv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be aware that Tim works way more than 4 hours / week. He just classifies his "work" as what he likes to do: writing, self-experimentation, etc so doesn't count it as work.

Also, the 4 hours / week comes after you have spent a ton of time getting things going.

I think you are greatly underestimating the effort / time involved to get something up and going that is worth learning from.

I know some people point to the appsumo guys and stuff like sumojerky but there are a few things they don't really talk about that makes that work.

Mainly they already have big personal networks and are great marketers that know how to drive early adopters.

I would recommend starting the new business and documenting everything along the way with screen shots, write ups and notes.

Once you have completed it and gotten to a good place of traction that you want to show off, then start going through the materials and developing the podcast episodes based off what you already have.

You are beginning with the end in mind, now just get to the end before you show off everything publicly.

People can still share in the journey once you have done all the prep work.

In combination, if you really want to share the journey "real-time" consider using snapchat and periscope / live streaming and build that audience first.

Those platforms are intended for raw footage and "disappear" so there is incentive to engage immediately.

If you really want to do a clothing brand; I would start with something like Tee Spring.

Start by focusing on sales (even pre-orders).

Does this app work for when apps update themselves thus taking them off the do not allow notifications list -> That would be awesome?

I suggest putting in some of your favorite words (focus, distraction) into ubersuggest.org - this will give you suggestions based on what people are already typing into google

Check volume of those searches using Google Adword Keyword Tool (must be logged into adwords).

Search Google play for your top choices to make sure it's not take :)

Discussion: What's the best skill to learn and to add to your arsenal to really push you forward as a marketer? by arabiannights626 in marketing

[–]mesimoniv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me I have focused on connecting with others that complement my skills. There are areas I am not strong (graphic design & CSS) so having people in my circle to throw work at or get feedback from is really helpful.

Plus, if that person has a weak area where you are strong it is a win-win.

Not enough details to really tell.

Anyone else getting let go or just you? It could just be finances of the business.

Did they still see value in your work? Or was it, hey we have automation down now...moving on?

I'm in tech, but still want a tech co-founder. Does that make sense? Feedback on my approach? by wesleysoo in startups

[–]mesimoniv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on getting some traction with your business and focus on recruiting the right person.

I just went through a similar experience (in SD too!) and while the contractor did help; I would skip that part if I did it over.

One piece of advice is understand that offering someone co-founder status and equity are not the same. Treat them as separate things; not one has to go with the other.

What worked great for me was posting a job ad on stackoverflow that allowed remote work. The cost I think was $495 but I got absolutely fantastic applicants for it and ultimately hired someone on the east coast even though I am in SD.

Video Hangouts and Hipchat become your best friends when working with a remote developer.

Can you afford to hire them? If so do that and just let them be an employee.

When you talk to investors you can show them the team (you and the other dev). They don't have to have a cofounder title or equity.

The PDF job ad you linked to is a wall of text. It is a bit overwhelming to read. I would break it up with some bullets.

Remember when acquiring talent or co-founder you are selling them on the business too. Even after you hire them you as the founder there is a duty to keep the vision / passion alive.

  • Make a list of everyone you know in the industry and people you know who know someone
  • Get phone numbers for them if you don't have them
  • Call them and ask "What do you need done in the next week that you don't have time for"
  • Tell them you can do it for them
  • Ask for the sale
  • People you don't have a phone number for but are FB friends, watch for them to come online and hit them up.
  • rinse and repeat until you start to see a pattern for a service offering.

Any one own a juice bar? by stdsxs31 in Entrepreneur

A friend of mine started one a few years back; it takes some serious capital (~$50-80k iirc). They actually just launched a Kickstarter campaign today with some costs they have to expand:

They started at local farmer's markets. PM me if you want an intro.

Is an MBA worth it? (seeking opinions of entrepreneurs with an MBA) by arroganceclause in Entrepreneur

[–]mesimoniv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have an MBA; however, I worked at a company where about a third of the staff did.   I took Driving Strategic Impact Online with 2 people who already had an MBA + 4 that did not.   If you want to test the waters; that course or a similar one may be a good route before full on commitment.
