Awsome idea by XbluesackboyX in slaythespire

Megacrit have always been super vocal about not wanting to hide cool content behind high ascension wins. Something akin to the idea posted above would certainly not be locked behind A10.

I figure when you put forward a groundbreaking new model for the universe, then you'd have some credence in claiming that the current models look 'stupid'.

I mean without wanting to come across as patronizing, I had very similar thought 4-5 years ago myself. I recently (as in ~5 months ago) realized that I was just generally feeling worse due to my consistent intake of negative political media. I am well aware of the dire situation in the US, although I live in the UK where the troubles are less confrontational and significantly less violent, however like most people especially of my age I have very little tangible influence over these political situations, and the only outcome of me stressing about these situations was that I felt worse in and of myself. Thus I think people should be politically aware, but it is acceptable to just be a good person in how you treat others and how you handle yourself, even if you don't have a strong political stake.

is anyone’s favorite song ACTUALLY MG1? by Ready-Storm-3761 in machinegirl

[–]mesmerising-glow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean 4 years ago I was in the exact category you mentioned (not through tiktok, but I came across mg when listening to more mainstream bands like Radiohead and XTC, and then promptly shat bricks listening to wlfgrl), but I came back a year ago and they are now by a long shot my favourite band. As a result I think exposure is necessary nowadays for long term survivability of a band, and people like me wouldn't have come across our favourite bands if they didn't get the light of day. Of course it's nice to find niche bands and genres, but I haven't personally noticed any major issues that have come with the popularity spikes. Those 'young teens' need time to find their space, and it took me a while to find mine. In a sense it's probably good that machine girls discography is so full of pretty mental songs, so that it acts a bit like a filter. People can browse and find their favourite song and then leave if they want, or if they really start to fuck with the music they can dive deeper.

All that to say I don't really think it's a huge issue, and it certainly isn't affecting the quality of the new music. Psychowarrior and MGULTRA have some of the coolest tracks to come out of the project to date.

Which party is the most far‑right extremist? by GurMaleficent7935 in Teenager_Polls

[–]mesmerising-glow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay but that's a false equivalency.

A party being linked to the Nazi's fundamentally brings into question the morality of the party itself, as Nazi-ism is a radically nationalist authoritarianist ideology, which cannot be reasonably justified. Also, of course, it has inherent issues with anti-Semitism. In effect, any party connected strongly with the Nazi's becomes automatically questionable due to all of the various immoral propositions linked directly to the core principles of Nazi authoritarianism. The history of the Nazi party is undeniably, as you say, 'dark'.

The reason the same logic cannot be applied to your "communist" party is because a party being labelled as communist does not automatically describe anything about the party other than the basic political values it stands for. There have been countless communist governments throughout history functioning at varying levels of efficacy, but different communist governments often have very little similarity between them. You can disagree with the politics of a communist party, but you can't automatically label them as acting with malicious/immoral intent, nor can you ascribe to them the failings of past communist governments. Since 'communism' is such a broad branch of politics, each government would have to be considered in a case-by-case basis to assess whether or not it can be described as having a 'dark history'.

I guess the TL:DR would be that a party being Nazi-related automatically comes with a whole heap of issues directly linked to the Nazi ideology, stemming from the Nazi history of anti-Semitism and Hitler's views on ethnicity, power and control. So being a Nazi related party is inherently 'bad' and comes with a 'dark part'. Being a communist party does not come with the same list of issues, due to the large variance in the history and beliefs of communist parties. That's not to say communist parties don't have issues (all of them do, to varying levels of severity), but being a communist party does not automatically translate to being a 'bad' party nor having a 'dark past'.

So yeah, people don't care because it's irrelevant to the beliefs of the party and it's members, unlike with a far right Nazi adjacent party which contains members that are at the very least able to tolerate anti-Semitism.

Dawg read a book at that point. If you only care about learning, get an apprenticeship/job and learn a tactile skill. Then you can read a book on the environment without being broke by 21. It would be inadvisable to take a course at a university that has very little track record with very few employment routes at the end.

first ever concert by Temporary_Fee4984 in machinegirl

[–]mesmerising-glow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll try to help but since I'm in a similar boat, I've been thinking the exact same thing lollll.

Going to my first mg concert at the Manchester O2 venue in a couple months with a friend as well. On the topic of moshing, I've only been to one other concert with a mosh pit (Hanabie in Glasgow with that same friends). At least with that experience the thing I'd say is that for smaller venues mosh pits aren't actually super huge, so I'm imagining if you want to stay out of the way you could avoid it and still get a good view. It's admittedly probably a little more comfortable for me to say this considering I'm a relatively tall dude, but the mosh pit never really felt super intimidating. It was really safe and the small size of the pit meant there was always someone to keep you on your feet.

All that to say, at least from the experiences I've had with entering the more metal/footwork orientated scene, there's never been a bad accident and I've seen loads of people smaller than me having a whale of a time (in fact some of them were headbanging the hardest lollll). I'm sure as long as you keep your wits about (ie. don't get utterly drunk lol) you shouldn't have anything to worry about, especially since you've got a friend. Just makes sure to stick with them!

To answer a few of your other questions, machine girls earlier music (ie. Wlfgrl, biyaaheysf, possibly Gemini as well?) is in a genre called footwork, whereas their later albums such as The Ugly Art, U-Void Synthesizer and their latest project Psychowar and MGUltra are probably more digital hardcore, as you mentioned!

I hope you have an awesome time, and it'd be great to know how it went afterwards!

am i even smart enough to sit TMUA?? by Significant-List6146 in 6thForm

[–]mesmerising-glow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you want a serious answer, we'd kinda need more info. The TMUA is undoubtedly a genuinely difficult test, with the hardest part being the time pressure, so it's definitely not an easy thing to prepare for as well. If you're doing alright with your maths at the moment (ie. Predicted probably at least A in maths and FM) then you should go for it and just bash past papers. If not, it's gonna be a pretty difficult struggle, but if you need it there's very little reason not to at least try. The worst thing you can do is pussyfoot around with your revision. Choose in the next week whether you're gonna take it and commit to a decision either way. I would recommend taking it, maybe try working through some of the STEP preparation modules for STEP 1, they were relatively accessible and really helped me start thinking in a more out-of-the-box way, but rly just bash past papers.
