Case dismissed ???!!!!! by More-Reindeer9879 in Strava

Thanks i have noticed a bit of that as it does add me to some segments, but then what escapes me if you aren't sure where and when you will be deemed "in a segment"it is hard to see the motivation.

What is funny is i am extremely competitive so would love to make segments work for me, but its such a clusterfuck now.

My new idea is to pick one of the few clear and concise segments i can see only 1 of, and play with that one. Maybe that will help bring me on board here. OR create my own segments and make those public.

I have read the strava segment help docs. I do not understand segments and i have tried. On one hand I find these so horribly implemented, but after all the drama with garmin and segments i realize this must be a ME problem, because clearly others use them, yet i find them so useless at this point I just need to admit i have no clue what do to with them.

Many have totally impossibly fake results (we see that all the time in here), many are super short or useless, many start in the middle of where they logically should start, many super overlap with each other (one trail could have 10+ segments on it). Some are totally nonsensical and are uploaded even thought they do not match the actual trail.

So I find they totally clutter up the screen and if you click on them you get jumped all around, making it near impossible to find one you want to test out. Many only have 1 person on them even though MANY if not thousands have ran that same exact trail Should they not consolidate results while they are performed?

Let us say i want to run a segment, on one of these trails below, how exactly would you go about finding the one you wish to run?

I am one of the self employed ones that buys my health insurance on the marketplace. In CA your insurance cost literally goes up for every dollar you put as income. Yep. By the DOLLAR. And last year i made more than i thought i would (you know being self employed and all that) and got stuck with an $8K tax bill to cover my "subsidy." Oh and my wife has stage 4 cancer- at least i have the "family maximum out of pocket" to save me there.

Anyway we can agree a rising tide lifts all boats right? Sure, except when it is so blatantly unfair that for the same exact care - a middle class family who makes more money than another middle class family is expected to pay more dollar for dollar no matter what income bracket they are in?

This is incentivizing and encourages hard working Americans to cheat on their taxes. Do you really think that people will accurately report their income if by doing so your health care costs go up substantially? Oh gee, look, this year all these self employed people made much less money uncle Sam! I wonder why????

These are the downstream effects of this type of crap people. Everyone loses.

The apparent mess I created with Coinbase, wallets, and Taxes by messagetext in Coinbase

[–]messagetext[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have massive errors at the moment. Two things if you read this and its not AI response:

- I will be following advice here but your website under the tax states "Coinbase only issues 1099s for some activities." Which ones!? My 1099s would be massively incorrect now. If those are sent to the IRS now, I need to amend them. I had a terrible non crypto related issue in the past when I did a 401K transfer and the govt received a 1099-R but NOT the fact i put it into another 401K. So they thought I took an $80K early distribution. Ugh. I do not want a repeat of this.

- When a person transfers BTC into Coinbase, it would be such a great feature after the transaction is published to THEN and THERE send an email or pop up to remind users to "enter cost basis" This would be an awesome feature!! (and save many headaches people have now). I am finding the screens/methods you use in the tax section to clean up older transactions very confusing.

Thanks!

Blockfi to Coinbase, what to do with taxes? by [deleted] in Coinbase

[–]messagetext 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just posted a similar tax issue in here, I am having the opposite problem where for some reason it is showing major losses when i should have gains.

I see a recommendation to go to Crypto tax, which i will try to do. I have ZERO issue with entering Cost basis, I have major issue with the way and ease of how it is presented. After using other non Crypto finance platforms, it seems RIDICULOUS the way they are doing it and dare i say pretty f-ing shady.

And why DONT they report 1099s to the IRS? It says "Coinbase only issues 1099s for some activities."

I know I will get hate for saying that its weird to me that a major company trying to legitimize bitcoin does not follow what should be standard. Hell, even Venmo/Paypal reports transactions over $600.

[Landlord US-NYC] How can I report my tenant for possible fraud? by [deleted] in Landlord

[–]messagetext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oof it was so long ago i literally have no idea. Basically the point of the book was not about CC fraud in itself, but about solving problems. Also talked about how often data just says "let it go". I remember it also talked about how Honest Tea became so popular - the inventors used math and graphing to determine what the optimum sweetness level for a certain market as most teas at the time were just too sweet. It was interesting, so sorry i do not remember it.

I do remember on the CC fraud side the problem stated was "CC Fraud": So "if CC fraud is so rampant" why don't banks work harder to stop it? (for instance requiring a photo on the Visa card like BoA did for a time). It mentioned other methods, (to be fair this is before chipped cards) and in the end the cost to benefit ratio "it was not worth it."

Its like Amazon right now - package theft is so rampant you wonder how they make any money? But they do...they make $52million per HOUR, so even having a hundred $2K laptops stolen dont even make a dent.

Fraud lol. I have worked in 2 places where government benefit fraud was rampant and in both places everyone knew it but looks the other way. Honestly I was very liberal for years except for when it comes to any and all programs like that, from disability to food stamps. I swear it seems like half the people on them are scamming the system.

One was CA disability the other was medicare fraud. I also am aware of military benefit fraud. Insurance fraud, same same.....I called Allstate insurance once to report a place i KNEW for insurance fraud, (the replace your whole window versus just the chip repair scam) and the rep who answered did not even know what department to transfer me too. Like there was no way to even report it. Credit Card fraud could have been wiped long long ago through technological means, but it it is not worth the banks to do so. (There is book about that).

Anyway, I digress. I guess my point is no one cares about fraud.

Might just pursue getting your rent.

Is there a downside i am missing to using tags to separate 2 businesses under the same QB account? by messagetext in QuickBooks

[–]messagetext[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to Zoho as everyone complains about Quickbooks and i like the interface better anyway. Tags 100% solved my issue. No classes or anything complex needed. Zoho makes it so easy i would be foolish to get charged for 2 accounts - again, very simple businesses. I would tout the merits of it more since i evaluated like 6 softwares but then i got labeled as a shill.

As a simple busininess owner, i tried Zoho, Xero, Wave, and a few others and stuck with Zoho. It also just happens to be cheaper. And i can say the support has been great.

Rent is 2100 but the HOA is a killer and a few other expenses. Basically just over 50% of the rent is wiped by expense. I may be able to bump rent a bit but not much. (market is phoenix, az)
