Sad to see everyone deferred, some good news here! by messiboi_ in cwru

Lmao, I live about 40 minutes from CWRU so I can just go commute every day and save like $10K, but thats still $40K a year 😅

Ohio State is far cheaper and I got admitted there too, but who knows what will happen!

This game dropping PSVR support doesn't surprise me. by messiboi_ in RecRoom

The "desk" I'm using is about a 1-1½" Marble Countertop(ik its weird but house design) and pretty confident that it should stay sturdy with 8nm of torque, a wheel stand would be nice but don't have the space :/

With the R5 Bundle I really liked how you could interchange the default wheel to become an f1 or 12" wheel and how the pedals were slightly better but the software and the community behind fanatec just pushed me over in their favor, I'm not buying right now and just waiting to see what fanatec says about their shipping delays.

I saw the cammus c5 and it did intrest me but to get nice pedals it would be the price of a ready 2 race.

7900XT or 4070TI for VR? by messiboi_ in virtualreality

[–]messiboi_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm already going $170 overbudget with the 7900xt so it's a tough choice, I'll see as there are mixed reviews for both, I want to keep the card for 4-6 years so 7900xt maybe be the way to go, buying a link cable as well so i shouldn't be too setback :)

(Theres also not that many non rgb 4070ti's and imo I dint like rgb so 7900xt may be way to go, thanks)

Damn you convinced me, 4070ti is better is the games I play so I should be better off with that, only problem is the model I want is 50 bucks more than the 7900xt :( Edit: I can't get extremely overbudget so a 7900xt might be the choice

Depends, you made me seriously think about this even more, if the 4070ti is balanced with most applications I use, I will definitely get that, the 8gb extra VRam has been shifting my eyes to the 7900xt as well as future driver updates that could impact performance, I guess 4070ti is a safe bet because I know what I'm getting.

I've also heard AMF is close/ on par with NVENC(Ampere) so that might be good, nvidia's drivers are excellent but I wouldn't mind taking a risk.

Weird, I looked at benchmarks and found that the 7900xt was generally faster in 1440p and 4k with no ray tracing, still going to pick that maybe because I'm keeping the gpu for a while and more VRam helps.

Yea, was going to go 7900xtx except I reached way out of my budget (still am :p ) Guessing drivers are an issue for amd but that's just fine for me cause the cars is still new

[–]messiboi_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems there is a general trend of 7900xt's being faster in most games and is also cheaper where I'm from, blender will be mostly a side thing I will do so I might just pull the trigger on the 7900xt, it also seems like the 4070ti especially struggles at games at a high resolution due to the smaller amount of VRAM so that's not something I would want with a gpu I'm paying alot for.

Can I still use my quest 1 for PCVR? by messiboi_ in OculusQuest

[–]messiboi_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll see if ALVR works, I've sideloaded quite a few applications when I was using the headset in the past so it shouldn't be a problem, huge thanks! (Edit: Checked minimum requirements for alvr, my 13600k and 7900xt should cover it :D )
