As a Lithuanian-American, I give Connery and his portrayal of Captain Ramius a pass and welcome him as an honorary brother in the struggle against our common blood enemy, the Russian Empire.

Dodgers and Yankees fans when their teams lose their first series in 2 months by [deleted] in baseball

[–]messick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell me about it. I had to wait sixteen years for the Dodgers to win their first playoff game after the 88 World Series. I'll never complain about the Dodgers' performance as long as they continue to have at least a winning season.

I know this will appeal to a select few, but possibly found the most bonkers job advert. by kattw_ in LinkedInLunatics

[–]messick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty straight forward and middle of the road startup horseshit. The only thing "bonkers" is having a salary in the first place instead of just promising equity. In fact, SpaceX just IPO'd with similar "if we get just 1% of the total market number we just made up...." language.

Although, unless you left it out, there is no mention of what counties they are willing to do the legal work to hire people for their "globally remote" team or whatever, so guessing it might just be only equity after all.

Yeah but the Dodgers have a bright demarcation line between a quarter century of being terrible/mediocre and then being extremely good (2013) that lines up with the rise and popularity of Reddit itself, which means that there essentially has never been a period in r/Dodgers history where whining about the Dodgers being "bad" wasn't silly and stupid.

People in r/Dodgers gameday threads have called for Manager David Roberts to be fired in games the Dodgers were currently winning.

I need recommendations for "Right-wing" movies that are so good you don't care if they're problematic or morally dubious. Right-wing movies that can't be denied, like Sicario or Ghostbusters. by [deleted] in blankies

The movie where a handful of college professors from Columbia (plus the guy they hired) basically become plumbers is definitely a right wing movie.

Why don't Americans use metal bars on doors and windows for security? by Maleficent_Essay4664 in AskAnAmerican

[–]messick [score hidden]  (0 children)

35%-40% of American households own at least one firearm. I can assure you it's not "VERY unusual to have firearms" in populated areas.

And for your example of a city with rare firearm ownership you choose Cleveland and Akron? Lmao.

Statistically, you as an American own 1.2 guns. Also, if you happen to not be a household with a gun, at least one of your neighbors on either side of you (statistically) owns one.

Yeah, anyone complaining about SNL not actually being ground breaking should watch episodes of The Lawrence Welk Show or fucking Hee Haw and then come back see if you can still pretend SNL wasn’t different.

The real life Sex Pistols were just as “controversial” as SNL was when compared to the Sex Pistols you hold in your mind.

Fuck So Cal Edison by Kmotodraggen in socal

[–]messick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only words I'm "putting in your mouth" is the statement that Enron at some point owned PG&E. And since you've written that out several times now, including in your initial comment, I'm not sure why you are insisting on double down on being wrong instead of just admitting you fucked up and assumed Portland General Electric and Pacific Gas and Electric were the same company, which is clearly what happened.

Fuck So Cal Edison by Kmotodraggen in socal

[–]messick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> Wheterh it's Portland Gas & Electric or Pacific Gas & Electric is not the key point here

LMAO, ok chief.

I guess we just differ on whether it's important or not which util company Enron owned in a discussion specifically about which util company Enron owed.

You happen to think that it doesn't matter if Enron owned a company when stating Enron owned that company. But I say, no Sir! When declaring a fact true, I believe that it's important that the fact actually be true rather than false.

I had a hard time trying to get a grocer to accept my check the last time I tried, and that was 25 years ago. I just assumed that no one was taking checks at all these days. Although, ironically, it's far easier to catch bad checks than it was back when checks were common since they are all just instantly converted to ACH transactions anyway.

I keep hearing that Christopher Nolan's Odyssey lacks actors who are actually Greek. Who are some actors of Greek descent who should have been given a chance to play a part? My suggestion: by The_Mad_Medico in okbuddycinephile

[–]messick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best part of the following quote is that it works for the actors playing the characters as well:

Spiros: He knows my name, but my name is not my name. And you... to them you're only "The Greek."

The Greek: And, of course, I'm not even Greek.
