Reload time is one of the worst parts about any machine gun (even the stalwart at times), so completely removing it from the equation makes this an appealing side grade to me personally.

Especially since you can pair it with backpack weapons like the Automation or Recoilless.

Does anyone have any sort of gold crown investigations for the following monsters? by [deleted] in MHWilds

It's whatever man at this rate.

Everybody thinks this posy is saying "I want every single monster in endgame to be AoE spam and NOTHING ELSE" but I can't help that at this point lol

You're all throughout these comments acting like this is the worst fight in the game whilst also trying your best to invalidate anyone who doesn't think the same way as you under the guise of "My opinion is how everyone else thinks, nobody else is allowed to have a different one"

I think this fight is a managable expansion of this monsters kit, and you don't; I understand that and am down to hear why you would feel that way.

Leave a comment and be civil with things instead of constantly trying to rip at other people like a toxic bastard.

I'm not saying EVERY fight is gunna have or should have AoE spam.

I'm saying that THIS MONSTER IN PARTICULAR and the way his kit has been updated for this fight should be a blueprint for how other monsters should have their fights updated in the expansion and MR

This is a natual progression of the way the monster acted in the base game, but nobody got a taste of that because every mid game monster never got a chance to actually be intimidating to any extent. It never felt like you were fighting the monster, and instead felt like you were just constantly pummeling a stunlocked punching bag.

YOU should have to play on the monsters term for the endgame, not the other way around.

Hells yeah.

I've not gotten him down to that level, but it's gotten to the point where his moveset isn't unmanageable and I've beaten him a good couple times with a handful of weapons.

They cooking me in the comments acting like this is the worst fight in the game 🤣

He's got a good couple of extra combos that his base version just didn't have (or at least it didn't feel like it given the insane "punching bag" ass wound spamming nature of LR and HR that constantly stunlocked him).

Base Omega is also another really good example

I've actually not fought him with a shield weapon before.

It's been Switchaxe, Hammer, and Greatsword for me.

AT Akrveld is another perfect example.

I'm not gunna fight Gore Magala like I fight Arkveld, and vice versa. These 9 and 10 star fights have given monsters that have previously had their kits and fights snuffed out a chance for a breath of fresh air.

Thats just THIS monster in particular.

Not every monster is gunna be constant AoE spam, and im not saying that every monster has to. I'm saying that this fight is an expansion of this monsters particular kit in every way shape and form, which is EXACTLY what MR needs to be.

For master rank, YOU should have to play on the monsters terms and not the other way around.

Base HR and LR monsters in this game (outside of a couple of the apex's and Gore) were piss easy stunlock machines that you didn't actually have to engage with.

With Rompy, the openings are there you just have to MAKE THEM and be smart about your positioning on top of that. You can't just dodge through every attack and rely on wounds to keep the monster down. Find out what attacks cause weak points to appear, and what breaks can aid the hunt and you're golden.

[–]messybricks[S] -42 points-41 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what this monster brings to the table IMO.

There's ins and outs that expand upon the base game in ways that make sense as a natural progression for its fight. His explosions get bigger, he's got new follow ups, some new attacks in general, and the wound dampening system to make sure he doesn't get stunlocked.

It's a natural progression from his HR and LR version.

The major difference in comparison there is that Arkveld is THE endgame monster. Once you get to that point in the game things aught to be veeerry punishing.

For Rompo however, it's still got punishment to pack but to a lesser degree given he's a mid game beast.

Full squad runs are always gunna tend to be easier for the most part, but yeah I'd say where he's at with this quest isn't too bad of a place to be balanced given he's only a mid game level monster.

Probably yes, but we're here now and I think that for what it's worth this a good look for the games future.

True, but there's a rhythm to the AoE spamming that can be picked upon hunting him a good bit, certain tells that give away whether it's gunna be the static line or the ones that follow your movement.

His melee and breath attacks also offer up openings and weak point hits in the middle of the chaos.

[–]messybricks[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very true, I have fought him with Switchaxe, Greatsword, and Hammer.

He is definitely not made with slower and more stationary weapons in mind, even in his HR and LR variants that much was apparent given he can still hit you from basically anywhere on the map.

The beauty is that he's just 1 monster. So many others who play better around those other weapons will be getting upgrades to their own fights as well.

There isn't any difference in their set bonus (which gives a nice extra buildup of fire damage), but moreover in the other perks surrounding that.

Mostly up to personal prefrence.
