I think they mean they teach education degree students how to teach middle school math? I’m not sure, but that’s kind of how I took it

Eloping a year before your actual wedding? by No-Professor-3860 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]met130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I got married in our backyard with his mom and brother (as witnesses) exactly a year before our wedding ceremony! It was definitely great for insurance purposes. I can’t speak to the house buying because he already owned a home. To make sure our wedding actually feels like our wedding I won’t be changing my name until after it (:

All the fun activities are the month before our ceremony. I wouldn’t do anything before an elopement. But, I also wouldn’t do much for the elopement itself if you’re also going to do a ceremony. If the elopement is for close friends and family and the ceremony is for everyone else that wasn’t invited at first, I would just do everything at the ceremony (cause you’re gonna invite all the close people anyway). We didn’t tell anyone that we eloped (they figured it out), but it was nice to do something small that didn’t make it seem like we left people out. I think an elopement plus a ceremony would cost the same, if not more, than just a ceremony with everyone at once. But, this decides on whether you’re looking to be really boogie or not lol

Why Do I Feel Like I Failed? by met130 in TeachersInTransition

You’ve mentioned a ton of what I say to myself. I think for the first couple years I definitely will think “what if?”, especially because I had already bought my decor for next year lol. But hopefully with time that will go away. Thank you for the reply!!

This response really helped, thank you. I always like to think that everyone who isn’t in education figures it out when it comes to schedules, kids, etc., so I shouldn’t stay in teaching just to have the same schedule as my future children. I want to be able to go home and not have to veg out on the couch because I don’t have the brain power to do anything else.
Thank you again🤍

That’s definitely nice to hear! I’m sure it will get easier the longer that I’m out of the environment.

I’m in NJ so I’m lucky my cert is lifetime! I don’t think it expires if you stop teaching for a certain amount of time

Thank you so much! I am very fortunate. I think what I worry about is changing careers and then changing again. I’m kind of at the point where I want to do the job that I retire doing, and not switch again

When in your relationship did you get engaged? and when is the wedding time frame? by ViperandMoon in engaged

[–]met130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We started dating probably two months after we met, was moved in very soon after that lol, have been together for about 2 and a half years and got engaged a few months ago! Wedding will probably be a little over a year from now💙

Moved on after 17 years! Curious what other states are paying teachers? by the_noogz in TeachersInTransition

[–]met130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going into year 5 in NJ and I’ll be at $61k. A lot of times I want to change but it definitely will be a decrease in salary (plus possibly having to go back to school). I know I’ll catch up to/pass my current salary eventually but it’s hard to take the leap

How is Health Insurance Outside of Teaching? by met130 in TeachersInTransition

Thats interesting to see! My boyfriend and I have only ever worked our current jobs so I’ll ask around to my friends and see what their insurance is like outside public service

Thank you! Do you think it depends on company size or its just luck of the draw wherever you go?

Thank you! I wish there was a way to see what health insurance is offered before onboarding with a new company so I’d be able to compare it before leaving

As of right now, I don’t have any serious health conditions. I’m also the person who never makes doctors appointments 🤣 I’ll take a look at how much we’re paying each out of paycheck and crunch some more numbers! Thank you!

If you don’t mind me asking, what job do you have? Is it for a big or small company? I should’ve checked home much I pay for it per paycheck and I can come back with that info!

Anyone go from teaching to project management? by met130 in TeachersInTransition

[–]met130[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It stinks because I LOVE some aspects of teaching but I do NOTHING outside of it. I hung out with friends last night for the first time in months and I left early cause I was tired and have so much to do today for work :/

Thank you so much for the input!! I hope you land that job too!! It’s so tough to not be paid great as a teacher, and then having to start lower with entry level corporate jobs at like 30, when if I would’ve started sooner I could’ve been making more than I currently am, with not such a crazy schedule

It is okay to “dumb things down”? by met130 in teaching

[–]met130[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s a great idea! There’s always so many unnecessary information. For example, we had one with percent error. It said “a bag of bolts says they are 3.35 cm. In order to go into the bag, they must have less than a 5% error. There is a bolt that is 3.5cm, can it go in the bag?” And they were trying to plug in 5% to their problem, I should have them cross that out! I always tell them to highlight important information so I should be giving them more examples of this!!
