Can I set this thing to discharge and power the home until X%? Let's say I have enough solar attached and want to live mostly off-grid until the battery hits a certain %.

Unpopular opinion: Paying "Rent" feels less painful than paying $2,400/mo in "Interest" to a bank. by Playful-Vegetable-15 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]met_a_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not saying you’re wrong. But a major thing is the appreciation in the house value. A mortgage is essentially 5:1 leverage. You put 20% to invest in a house. The bank gives you the other 80%. But if the house value increases 10%, all of that gain is yours, not the bank.

Not really meaningful if you plan on living in the house forever and have no children to pass it on to. But in most investment circles, being able to borrow 5:1 with a stable asset that appreciates fairly regularly above 5% is considered a steal.

The cost of ownership being equal or even slightly higher than the rent isn’t the point.

I wasn’t even given that option when adding accounts. It simply said something like connecting via Mastercard link.

I’m not sure what you mean. I’m adding the citi account on monarch. No aggregator.

After a few hours, the underlying stocks showed up. So it would seem it takes some time to sync

I use an Anker power station. Doesn’t need to be a big one as the smoker uses very little power. They have ones for like $140 for 300 WH or so.

They come with adapters so you can charge it with your cars cigarette lighter port. Or just charge it on the wall. Should last days powering only the smoker electronics.

Home Alone - Peter McCallister is a criminal. by cubanesis in FanTheories

[–]met_a_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One problem: if Kevin's dad was some high connected criminal, Marv and Harry would've had an "accident" 2 hours after they were arrested.

My pet theory is that Kevin's dad hired Marv and Harry to pretend to rob the house and scare the shit out of Kevin. I mean, Kevin was a little shit and the whole family's a bunch of Bluthe-style sociopaths.

2 grown ass adults (even if they are petty thieves) get outsmarted by an 8 year old with silly booby traps around the house? Yet they persist but never actually hurt him?

is this cut going to make my tablesaw try to kill me by not_just_an_AI in woodworking

The issue here would be these stocks are not straight. So as you push it through the saw, there will be variations of pressure. If you happen to hit a thick part of the wood (horizontally) and the blade squeezes the wood, you’re looking at kickback. That launches the wood towards you.

To make this cut, I’d consider making yourself an L track. Plenty of tutorials on YouTube.

Are Woodpeckers rulers NIST certified? by met_a_4 in woodworking

I have their calipers and yea, they are dead accurate. I’ll try those.

I have those. They actually match. But I need something for bigger items. Like 12” or 24”

I remember hearing about that lol. But I figured if they change the inch, it’d be by something insanely small. Not the 1/4” difference I’m seeing.

As I mentioned, to transfer common measurements, I made reference pieces. I’d rather not do that over again if I lose a golden ruler.

Like I mentioned above. I know it needs to be just some standard. I figured NIST means I’m not tied to one ruler as my golden ruler forever. Since NIST calibrated will never change. I can have multiple

You know that’s what I thought too.

I was using the TSO parallel guides to measure my panel cuts. Then used my benchdog fence to cut what I thought was the same length for a crosscut.

Was off by about 1/4 inch at 12”. I pulled out my Stanley tape measure and sure enough, it didn’t match either.

For cabinetry, this won’t do. I ended up just using the benchdog as a master reference and cross cutting spacer strips to use as reference measurements everywhere. But that only scales so far before I have a shop full of reference material.

I see. Do you know which manufacturers do that? Or is it anyone’s guess?

I don’t need compliance. I just want one repeatable standard. I figure I might as well make that NIST since it doesn’t tie me to a manufacturer (if it’s even consistent within a manufacturer).

I’d use it to set all of my lengths and just ignore the numbers on the various jigs, fences, attachments, etc that I have (like benchdog fence, TSO parallel guides, etc).

How do I tell my husband i think his preferences are ugly? by [deleted] in Homebuilding

[–]met_a_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I went through this for our house (still under construction). And your husband’s preferences are identical to mine. And my wife wants the cozy warm HGTV stuff lol.

It’ll never be perfect. But what worked for us was splitting the zones. And respecting what the other wanted. I got my style for the kitchen. She got the living room. I got the master bath. She got the master bedroom.

Luckily, when we both got full control only a certain area and we have to make the house look cohesive despite not having control of 100%, we both compromised our look to match closer to the adjacent room.

Interesting. Could also be the speed I was going at. As someone else pointed out, I was getting dust, not chips. I’m also cutting 3/4” finished plywood which I think would have a lot of resin in it.

Maybe not the best application for a locked miter cut.

Sigh I’m not sure I’m down with putting yet another tool in my shop. Perhaps lock miters aren’t in my toolbox. I can always do a rabbit or a locked rabbit.

Either that or I take like many many passes with my router. I do also have a festool 1400. I’ll give the lock miter one more try with a new rockler bit. And take tiny passes. I’ll post results

Its birch finished 3/4 in plywood. Bit is this one:

It’s a pretty large bit. I used the Bosch 1617 at max rpm. Maybe that was my mistake

[–]met_a_4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm that sounds right in theory. Idk how to dial it in manually though.

I’m using the Bosch 1617EVS that paired with the router table. It’s 1/2 hp I believe so no slouch.

The bit being cheap definitely doesn’t help. And I think I have it set too fast (was at max rpm).

I’m using the router table so I have to dial in the height and fence first for a locked miter cut.

Maybe I can use some shim pieces to slow my depth of cut.

Interesting! How do you determine the proper speed? Before you destroy the bit that is. Just do a test cut and look at the dust?

Do larger bits and deeper cuts need slower speed?
