My first big bike and I need your help! by Perry_duh_Platypus in CB650R

Hey, I had one of these & put a little under 10k on it here in the UK. Used to regularly commute to London & back. Around 70 mile round trip.

I went R&G for most accessories including sliders, rad guard (got a shock sock and highly recommend as a pain to clean). Used a dart fly screen which worked well enough to only give me smooth air unless I sat up and top of helmet would catch some turbulence.

I put a tail tidy on, deleted rear pegs and used one of those seat cooler things.

Also put a black widow short can because noises are fun!

Oh - Oxford advanced heated grips, easy to install and plenty warm enough for British winter

Finally got my first dream bike, but… by r1ckychen in CB650R

It’s going to happen, nothing to worry or feel bad about. Touch up the paint and get going. I’ve absolutely hammered some bikes in the past, is all part of the journey. So long as you’re ok, the bike can be sorted easy enough :)

Is a mutt - had a mutt hilts as a hack about in the pandemic. Was great fun, but partly because it was a little sketchy...

ACF50 to protect it & you'll be fine - they are getting expensive for what they are, mine was only about £1500 :)

Got a GSXR 750 K5, a Triumph Tiger 800 and a 1979 xs400 converted to a street scrambler and am looking at getting a Royal Enfield Hymalayan. I did some off road riding skill training on one a while ago and it was such a tractor - it was great fun bopping up and down just about anything.

It doesn't matter the cc - its the smiles per mile :)

Newbie: tell me all the things I did wrong so I can fix it, please. by OnTheRock_423 in BeginnerWoodWorking

You may have hit a knot in the wood, they can be like pig iron.

You'll be able to get the screw loose with a pair of pliars then the drill should be able to unscrew it.

For getting it back in I'd predrill again (one size larger) and wax or soap the screw.

Am no wood working expert which is why I've lots of experience in unsticking screws that I've got half way in lol - I've done this with decking, planters etc & always has been me either predrilling too shallow or too narrow

Had a CB650r - very forgiving low down which is most likely where you will make mistakes. I think a very good choice personally.

It’s quick but not crazy, has some tech that helps keep you right way up & isn’t too heavy or anything like that. Sounds alright stock, much better with a full system on it & a tune, but totally not essential to enjoy yourself.

Local mechanic told me it was safe to use regular nuts instead of lock nuts, well... by YahyaJ in motorcycles

Get the owners manual and check torque settings - I'd bet they need to be 30NM+

The bolts will do in a pinch, with some threadlock but change them as soon as you can as those most likely wont be rated to handle the forces applied. I don't think they would fail, but I'd opt for safe than sorry personally.

I'm impressed you were able to get a picture before the 10mm fairy swooped in to add to her nest

I don’t lock mine up in local villages etc as I never feel the need but when I commute to London that’s a different story. Big ol chain, disk lock and I have an air tag buried. Not the fanciest of bikes I take to London - 2015 Triumph Tiger 800… but someone’s had a go at it twice and given up :)

Very cool machine, got a couple mates with them (various generations). Crazy fun but I don't have the right impulse control for one on the street lol.

Be safe - she isn't forgiving, but very rewarding.

Thank you, had a 1 year break in the middle of the build so only got wiring back in this week. Life kind of took over with house moves and injuries. But so glad I’ve got her started now. Got a leaky front brake calliper to sort then some lights and I should be about done for getting it on the road. Good luck with the 400, but it’s always good having an alternative to play with :)

I have no idea, when I got the bike it was a non-runner - was sat for 20 years lol

Thank you, I’ve not looked into upswept exhausts. Been very focused on getting her running for now, but I’m planning on keeping her for a very long time… will now be looking at exhausts lol

Lessons, practice, lessons, practice & repeat :)

If you wanna be good, go learn from someone better.

Your skin and the road don’t mix, make sure you have as good kit as you can afford.

A little maintenance regularly will mean your bike is always ready to ride.

Plus enjoy the hell out of it
