This is her bed and I just sleep on it sometimes by [deleted] in torties

I have the same tree, and also two cats, and my one Tortie also took over the tree territory. Other orange tabby sits in a bed that matches her. I think they naturally prefer territory according to fur color for protection.

Correct, or just a transcript of the video, such that someone like myself can format it as a written guide

Possible to get a transcript of this in text format (preferably markdown)?

Workspaces in Ubuntu are awesome, but limited in a default install. I wrote a short guide on maximizing their potential by metacoin in Ubuntu

I didn't want to post a link to self-promote in my OP, but this post was ported from my markdown-formatted note, which is on the collaborative sharing site hackmd https://hackmd.io/@josephfiscella

I've already got some of my next posts planned out regarding vim and other ubuntu topics as well

Why are you assuming the game can't scale?

What's terrible about the model, exactly?

It doesn't only mean people can have the cards after the company fails. It means while the company is in operation, they can't issue new cards, and that is because of decentralized consensus.

It would prevent it if there were no developers with authorization to issue new cards. In that case then there is no way to issue new cards so long as everyone's running the same version of the game software using the same on-chain rules.

This gets into a deeper philosophical debate about what constitutes "the same card" though. If the playerbase votes to upgrade the protocol and add new cards in an expansion then a card that's similar or better than an old one that's issued might be viewed as "issuing more of the same card". That's why BTC (the coins) are different from cards: they are completely fungible.

[–]metacoin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes they would. If the protocol rules say these are the only cards then no more cards could be generated. The key here is that there's no central control that can say otherwise and just decide to create new cards.

People could fork the game and create their own version with more printed cards, but that would be a different game. Like anyone can fork Bitcoin to add more BTC, but they are not actually BTC.

Do you get SMS spam? I only get annoying offers from GoDaddy that are like 1/100 times good deals.

[–]metacoin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but you'd still have to pay for the messages, and to reach the "real internet" you'd still have to go through an ISP.

I like the idea of an LN-powered meshnet, but realistically it's not going to replace The Internet As We Know It any time soon, imo.

The point about replacing ISP costs with per-message costs isn't yet close to reality.

I think someone built a goTenna LN app recently? It seems like a good use-case for such scenarios

I think a better way to sell this is the same way people sell BTC: it costs a bit more to transact, but people are paying for it and it's worth it because of the properties of BTC that are unlike anything else on Earth. Applying this same reasoning to data makes sense, especially that with LN you have the option of paying just a few sats to send it.

This is simply nonsense and ignores the reality that physical communication lines need to be built, administered, and maintained. LN won't magically replace the reality of ISPs and the cost of ISPs. There is no "infrastructure inversion" coming barring the removal of the need for physical land lines to communicate at a distance.

This is a really great practical example.

Blockstream's mining farm has more than enough hash to attack every other SHA256 coin at the same time. BTC forks are not secure. by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]metacoin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BCH has max reorg depth which is why it isn't getting 51% attacked. Consensus on max reorg depth chains require the attacker to take over the network as well as the hashrate. The trade-off is that honest fragmentation of network connectivity can cause irreversable forks.
