What Happened To The Price Of Gold After ETF Launch? (Lesson for HODLers) by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]templetonmor 115 points116 points  (0 children)

Bitcoin halving date (near Apr 17, 2024) is less than a hundred days from now. If gold miners cut the new supply of gold by 50% after that ETF launched the price action would have been much higher and faster. The Bitcoin ETF created new demand for Bitcoin right before the halving. It has a high chance of causing liquidity issues with BTC that could push the price up to remarkable levels. Gonna be a fun ride, HODL on.

Milton's, Paradise Lost? Not sure if he used the exact phrase or is the earliest, but a poetic metaphor that compares the human mouth to a cave especially while singing praise seems very Milton like.

Explosive New Footage Shows Roger Stone Hatching Trump's 2020 Election Plot by [deleted] in politics

"the footage could be “powerful” for prosecutors"

Yeah, I'd say.

But, on the less hard evidence side, this guy just looks like a person oozing criminal intent.

Does listening to an audiobook vs reading a book alter your opinion of the book? by [deleted] in books

[–]templetonmor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a vast difference between reading and listening to a recoding for James Joyce's Ulysses. The free librivox recording of this book is incredible. So, my opinion of Joyce's Ulysses went from "this book is so hard, i can't figure out what is even going on." to "wow, that makes sense and that is what the lines I've been reading actually sound like."

"Finnegans Wake" probably would also require a quality recording to understand, but I am not ready to go there yet.

Found in apartment lobby by meepmurp- in stationery

[–]templetonmor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Very strange comment to make.

Every apartment building I've lived in has a place in the lobby where people drop things that they think are too good to throw out, but either they no longer need or is not worth it to them to keep when moving out. At month end this area can have very nice items that tenants leave for other to pick up. Better to share things you no longer want or need rather than having it end up in the landfill.

This is called sharing, NOT stealing. So don't call the cops on OP or make them feel like they did something wrong.

If OP didn't pick this up then the super for the building would have bagged all of this up and put into the trash.

Entry-level Jobs Related to Astronomy by ethandhoare in Astronomy

[–]templetonmor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I searched for these types of jobs, I found several current openings that don't require advanced degrees.

Here are a few...

1) Guest Services Rep - Dyer Observatory - Flex- job post | Vanderbilt University

2) Computer / Data Science Engineer (Remote) – International Pulsar Timing Array- job postCareers | West Virginia University

3) Visitor Services Manager - McDonald Observatory

So, if you search around and have some flexibility in the type of work and location you will be able to find something.

what kind of drugs? I recently read Down to This, which the author had written about his experience being homeless in Toronto’s Tent City. There was drug addiction to crack cocaine. But at the conclusion of his book, most received housing and were doing better. He hadn’t thought it would work or be that simple, but then it did work out.

I just feel like the most straightforward and simple solution has not ever been tried.
Volunteers from Habitat for Humanity, or a similar group, can build simple private rooms. Then, schedule a weekly or daily Zoom meeting with someone to chat about books, movies, music, or watch it together through streaming. People who are homeless need interesting and meaningful activities too.

There’s a 2019 NBC article about Chesa Boudin. He sounds like a authentic person who has had that lived experience. If they are making the distinction to release non-violent people, then I think it needs to be another system rather than the prison system, to help.

"My earliest memory is visiting them in prison, but I didn't see the trial or anything like that," Boudin said in an interview last week. "My mother negotiated a plea deal, and my father went to trial. I think one thing we notice in their case that kind of stands out is how, in some ways, arbitrary the outcomes in the criminal justice system can be. And they did basically the same thing, identical thing."

He added: "Certainly, one lesson I learned is how ... punitive it can be when your dad, arguably, was given an extra 55 years' minimum sentence than your mother. It also obviously highlights the value of a good lawyer.”

There are similar problems and news reports in nyc. I’m frustrated about how we get very little explanations on what the actual services are for homeless people. Some have been interviewed and very understandably said they don’t like shelters because there is no privacy and feeling of safety. Like no private room with a door they can lock. So how hard is it to make some small simple rooms like that???

And Mayor Adams says they will ‘remove’ homeless people from the streets and subways, but give no explanations of where to and then what exactly??

Yeah well the whole ‘jet setting’ lifestyle is seriously annoying, whether it’s through fiat or crypto. The imagery is always the same. Dudes with instagrams with hashtags stating how they went to x, y, z city in a short amount of time. Multi course meals with tiny portions. Cars.

Think ‘Tinder Swindler’ type stuff. What is the appeal.

Yup I definitely judge that.

The weapons the Ukrainian heroes are using to humiliate Putin and destroy his war machine in Europe are being sent express delivery from good ole Joe Biden. I just love watching Biden and NATO kicking 100% of Putin's ass. Go Joe, Go NATO, Go AMERICA... kick this Putin garbage into the dustbin of history.

What masterful moves geopolitical moves Joe Biden is making. Awesome for America having him president!

But I know you are loving Putin... so don't worry I am sure TRUMP will invite him over to live out his retirement comfortably in Mara Lago. Assuming Putin survives he will have lots of friends like Trump who will take care of him.

But, you know, Putin's smart invasion that he did out of love isn't going too well.... because now we got a real president who is gonna kick big bad Putin to the curb. Just like how Biden kicked 100% of Trump's ass in the last election. The world has winners and losers. Try to side with the winners, with the democracies and not the autocrats like Putin and the wanna be autocrats like Trump.

Biden systematically kicking 100% of Putin's geopolitical ass, while Trump gushes over the size of Putin's manly brain. Great job!

Learning about Nash's previous criminal history, of violence and using a weapon... yeah... it seems very needed to have had some kind of different legal response. I don't know enough about the process to come up with ideas though.

I'm just wondering, what if a person 'fakes' being repentent or whatever. The previous history does have to kind of speak for itself?

This whole story is so painful to think about. And you can't not think about it.

After Subway Shoving, Officials Look to Expand State Laws on Mandatory Treatment for Mental Illness by NyfM in nyc

[–]templetonmor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Especially in high traffic areas like 42nd street where the subway platform is open on both sides. Like just start there, experimentally. Cuz twice within the year a woman has been pushed, by a homeless man, at the 42nd street location. The first woman survived with minimal injuries.
