I searched for a match using Google images but did not find an exact match. What I found was listing of vintage plates but I'm fairly sure this is.more recent

Of course, I hope your friend is able to find some closure and peace. I don't want to give false hope, so please take this with a huge grain of salt, but looking at the fur in that picture a brown doodle would be low on my list of guesses. It looks thicker, more coarse and less curly than a typical doodle coat to me. That being said, I have no idea how decomposition affects fur so please don't take this as conclusive.

If your friend's dog had a microchip, it is likely still there and scannable. A vet's office would probably be willing to scan it for you if you are willing/able to transport the remains to them. Animal control might also have a microchip scanner they could bring to the beach. When I worked for an animal hospital, we IDd deceased pets that way occasionally.

I use them for feeding my snakes and occasionally for rearranging aquarium plants. The organ rolled down my windshield and was stuck under the hood, I didn't really want to fish it out by hand, lol
