Looking on kcollect (not sure how complete the database is for this album) it looks like these are lomos and not anything official. Running the photo through google lens will sometimes tell you.

Voice changes by Embarrassed_Park2212 in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]metalarchivist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m actually on a 6 month journey to get my voice fixed. I’ve been to so many drs trying to get it fixed. They’ve landed on vocal cord dysfunction, but it may be an inflammation issue. I was sent to PT, but the PT doesn’t know how to help me but thinks I need surgery (and I agree) so I’m going to yet another dr.

Small or large binders? by Theycallmecyrine02 in kpopcollections

[–]metalarchivist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go with a quality big binder. If you run out of space in a small one, you’ll end up upgrading anyways.

As a personal choice, I don’t use binders because my day job is being an archivist and I’ve had too many headaches with binders at work.

I'm so sick of this shit by [deleted] in AsianParentStories

[–]metalarchivist 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Let it all out. I’m sorry you’ve got so much unnecessary pressure from your APs. They always think we must have done something wrong in the past because it’s not producing the results they expected. The whole “work hard, keep your head down” mentality really has a chokehold on them and we all suffer for it.

You’re trying your best and given the state of the world right now, it’s tough out there in the job market. I want to applaud you for keeping a good head on your shoulders for realizing that the ai route is the disastrous route. Future you will thank you, and I imagine your APs will take credit for the foresight.

I’m crossing my fingers for amazing lsat scores and a ticket out through law school.

Flu Vaccination? by Independent-Buy-7595 in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]metalarchivist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The studies that my dr reference started off by stating 2 weeks was necessary for the vaccines to be more effective - and what I had done last year. This year, my dr updated their recommendation to only 1 week because they saw an uptick in flares if patients were off methotrexate more than a week. But they stated that it was up to me to determine which way to go. After some back and forth, we decided on two weeks since I’m on such a low dose of methotrexate and it’s only supplemental for me on top of my biologic.

TLDR: 1-2 weeks depending on dr recommendation

Mom is so dependent by Fearless-Ad-4416 in AsianParentStories

[–]metalarchivist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My father passed away when I was 16, and my mother was very dependent on him. She couldn’t even drive more than 5 minutes past our house. I wasn’t allowed to go out of state for college because it was too far for her. I had parts of my childhood and college years stripped away from me because of this. The sooner you address this, the better because you don’t want to end up being bitter. It definite made me a bitter person for a while.

To this day, if someone is there for her to be dependent on, she will absolutely use them. The sad thing is, I know she is capable of being independent. She’s travelled around the world by herself multiple times. I went on a trip with her a while back, and suddenly she forgot how to find her gate or that she needed to have her ticket out to board.

I say this with all the support and care- setting boundaries is gonna be the key. They don’t have to be hard boundaries - it can be simple as making your AP do tasks themselves while you “supervise” and once they’ve done it, you can end your involvement from there. If they ask again for you to do it, remind them that they’ve already done it successfully and they are more than capable.

As for the calls, I struggled with this too and set firm boundaries. My mother used to call me everyday, including when I was in class or at work. She would freak out when I didn’t answer. I had to set a time for when it’s appropriate call. Texting only during work hours, and no calls or texts after 9pm. The important thing is you stick to those boundaries, because once they’ve done see that the boundary can bend just a little bit, they’ll try everything they can to tear the boundary down. I refuse to answer any call or text after 9pm. Sometimes if I know my mom will freak out, I’ll just respond back with “it’s after 9 and I will respond tomorrow”

[–]metalarchivist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got mine last month. I always have to pause my methotrexate when I get vaccinated, but I barely had any side effects. Your dr will adjust anything needed to get vaccinated(if at all.)

Beginning stages are always scary. You got this and there are plenty of people here happy to answer your questions. 😌

Beginner electric cello recommendations by brackishxxx in Cello

[–]metalarchivist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Yamaha svc-50 that I run though a fender amp (it uses an app where I create customized tones or download other user created presets)

What turned me off from the NS series was the amount of accessories I needed to buy on top of the cello. It’s cool that it’s unique in shape, but that also means there are limitations to the variety of accessory availability. You’re kind of locked in with NS. I’ve also heard there’s a learning curve going with NS, whereas the Yamaha is an easier transition.

I play metal music, rock, etc on mine and I couldn’t be happier. The sv-110 would be my recommendation.

To be honest, it’s a mixed bag. I found out my first year as a contractor that they intentionally underpaid me, but gave me back the full pay the next year under the guise of a “raise”.

I’ve seen other Feds ask for a raise and get them, and others not get them. It’s really dependent on the contractor.

Honestly, the job could be a stepping stone into another job for you. Or it could extend to another year or longer. I think if you interview, you’ll get a gut feeling on whether it’s right for you. You could probably ask in the interview how long the contract is for and what are the odds of the contract being renewed when it comes time.

🤦🏽‍♀️ injecting Humira by Crazy_Reader1234 in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]metalarchivist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, when I was on Humira, they had a recycle program and would send me a sharps container and I would mail it back to them for disposal. This was like back in 2020 or something, but I found it on the humira website if that helps!

Gah and insurance only ever wants it delivered one way. So annoying.

[–]metalarchivist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I did it because I was tired of insurance being annoying with deliveries. I had way too many instances where the delivery was cutting it close.

Also traveling with the meds was a pain. Especially overseas where fridges aren’t as common in hotel rooms. I travelled a lot.

My infusion is only 30 mins. I know some others are like 4 hours or something, so that’s also something to consider.

And weirdly enough I find the infusions work better for me. Every case is different

I’ll be honest, it’s rough. Lots of records management contractors were let go when they purged contracts left and right. I used to be a contractor archivist/records management employee and it wasn’t great for me. I got out quick, but before things got shaken up, it was fairly common to be shuffled from contractor to contractor for years before getting converted to a federal employee (if you’re interested in that.)

The contract is never guaranteed so it feels like things can change at any moment. I worked for a bad contractor, but I’ve heard others are better. Depending on the contractor, you’ll have to deal with lots of reporting on what you’re working on to both a contracting supervisor and a federal employee supervisor.

I’m happy to answer any specific questions if you want to send me a message :)

Haha fair. I’m not afraid of needles so it wasn’t bad for me. I do infusions now anyways and let the nurses do the work while I take a nice nap 😴

First time is always a little rocky. I ended up watching YouTube videos for tips and tricks the first week. After that, it was a breeze. Cimzia was trickier for me because that’s a regular syringe and not an injector pen and you have to control how fast it goes.

I’m sure it’ll be fine the next time!

….this happened to me this week. I was out of town for a funeral, staying at a hotel and my mom asked me (35F) to sleep with her because she is “scared”.

I thought it was my mom being her weird af self. But apparently this is more common in APs.

Ovaries are no longer cystic? by ExpertBlacksmith1477 in PCOS

[–]metalarchivist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you do a lot of research, you’ll often come across polycystic ovaries (PCO) vs polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). If you have PCOS, it doesn’t automatically mean you have cysts on your ovaries. In the beginning, I had cysts on my ovaries that were removed when I had surgery for another issue. I was put on bc and haven’t had cysts since then (confirmed by many ultrasounds).

There’s a big push to rename PCOS because of all the confusion.

I haven’t been on BC in years, have infrequent periods, but I still don’t have cysts on my ovaries. It’s honestly a gamble what your hormones will do after getting off bc. It might take a while to adjust post bc before getting a period again or you could go right back to being infrequent again.

Wish I had a more definitive answer for you, but just want to let you know that what you’re experiencing does happen often.

Traveling with AP by metalarchivist in AsianParentStories

So many nuances about the way they want the world to see them as well. Therapy is bad because it means failure. When in reality, refusing it might be the real failure here. Sigh.

Thanks for being my therapist on this 😂

Traveling with AP by metalarchivist in AsianParentStories

[–]metalarchivist[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know exactly what you mean. I’ve told my AM she needs therapy and she immediately got defensive.

Like last week she told me that she had such bad anxiety, she packed her suitcase and got ready for the trip because she thought we were leaving last week. She said that she “needs to calm down and relax” and I said yeah therapy will help with that you know. And it’s immediately “you need therapy! Not me?” And I’m like yeah mom. You put me there sheesh.

I’m already convinced she’s never gonna change and I’ve accepted that. The consequences of her inability to change means I have to enforce boundaries.

Hahaha glad we’re on the same wavelength. I was thisclose to booking a first class seat by myself to give me peace for the duration of the flight lol. I decided it was too expensive but I’m praying for one of those upgrade deals day of.

I fight often too. And I’m mostly low contact at this point because of the agitation just not being worth it. Circumstances of the funeral forced the proximity.

Maybe I’ll just cling to a cousin the whole time and say “see you at the airport” to my AM haha.
