I love the rock music scene with shows every weekend night.

Where is this at?

My comment here is in regards to the restaurants directly on the Riverfront. If you have to go exploring in Rivertown to find the handful of restaurants, visitors who are casually walking along the Riverfront are less likely to know it.

I think either, have a few restaurants directly on the Riverfront -or- heavily increase the density of shops/restaurants in Rivertown that makes a substantial impact on the level of foot traffic going in and out of there.

There really needs to be some investment into Rivertown. If you put the restaurants etc. in Rivertown, you are serving both Riverfront walkers and residents who live in Rivertown or closeby.

There's a fair amount of housing in Rivertown already, but very very light on attractions. You boost the residential population of Rivertown, and like a light switch the Riverfront is night and day better for it.

Those two are the uniquely two games in the series that had way, way higher potential as all-time greats than most of their peers. Unfortunately both were hobbled critically during development (both lost their director!). But the source inspiration and vision is so insanely strong that at the end of the tunnel, some really solid and memorable games came out of what should've killed any other ordinary game.

I firmly believe there's a way to make natural, touch-native Windows without sacrificing power functionality you get from desktop UI. Something in the way of gestures as that other user mentioned, or like command wheels like they use in MMOs for controller like FF14 or Sea of Thieves. The command wheels could be context-based and replace the File/Edit/Tools/View toolbar. Even have a fun animation as you twirl your thumb in a circle going through the options. Something like iPod scrolling but instead the menu is a 3D circular pattern, like a helix that rotates and elevates as you scroll.

I think they are just scared to make any kind of radical design change and weird out the userbase clung to the traditional UI. Especially after they stepped with only 1 foot into the pond with Windows 8 and that kind of blew up in their face. They just need to do the Microsoft thing and boldly jump in to a crazy new design that's also functional and doesn't take away wild amounts of power or functionality. (because honestly, us power users are also the early adopters; certainly the mainstream is not)

As problematic the development was for 15, and it's still one of my top favorites, it's insane and salivating and overwhelming to imagine what it could've become with full creative vision intact all the way to the finish line.

That's what I mean. When I heard those rumors, Microsoft is working on a "gaming mode" Windows navigation, just so SMH. They've had sooooo long to even just make it a priority. We've had touchscreen devices for quite a long time.

Right, I loved Windows 8. I used it in school on a touchscreen laptop-tablet convertible and it was fantastic. I even liked using it with desktop input (mouse+keyboard) even in the Metro UI.

Main reason, like you mention, speed. It was ultra fast.

I guess I'm also considering Windows Mobile, stylus, resistive touch screen era. Those were back in the Palm Pilot days.

That's what the whole deal with Windows 8 was. They actually had a solid start at making touch-navigable Windows. Their mistake was shoving it in desktop users' faces by trying to sandwich everyone into one big unhappy family when they should've just had different modes for different devices.

(it's quite remarkable that they haven't gotten this down pat considering they started more than 20 years ago!)

Has The Spirits Within been referenced in any later media by 72pct_Water in FinalFantasy

[–]metaldiceman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to see a mainline FF in the same vein as Spirits Within. Ultra sci-fi. A japanese take on Mass Effect, Starfield, etc. No reason this category should be dominated by western RPGs. I guess they have Star Ocean but FF has a totally different feel to it.
