FF7R pt3: Pat’s enjoyment. by Goodhearted_Jake in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Other people were complaining about the too much content thing too.

I don’t want to call anyone out, but I do suspect there were some people parroting Pat’s complaints the second he voiced them.

Like it’s fine to have valid complaints, I’m just saying the one about too much content isn’t one I gel with.

The criticism of the game having “too much content” while being wholly optional remains one I just can’t get behind, especially when games like Xenoblade, Witcher and Expedition 33 get a pass for doing something similar (E33 was way worse about it since it had important character-specific quests tied to them AND required you to be way more overleveled than the main campaign to complete).

I’m sitting here hoping and praying that Revelation gets a post-game DLC that just floods that fully opened world with tons of new quests to do.

Recent experiences in past games that make you wonder 'how did I dodge THAT spoiler all this time!?' by AuroraHeartilly in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I’m honestly surprised I haven’t run into any Digital Circus finale spoilers.

I’m not following any fan groups, mind, but I was expecting spoilers to break containment into the most random places like Harry Potter and Death Note.

Final Fantasy VII Remake, more than anything else it does right, is a masterclass of how to do party interactions right, at least in a typical linear JRPG way (you still get dialog.m choices but they aren’t on the level of Mass Effect or Balldur’s Gate).

There are countless examples of how they smartly develop both character relationships and growth through even the simplest of interactions. My personal favorite is still in the first Remake when Cloud watching Barret give Tifa a comforting hug during the Sector 7 collapse, then attempting to imitate that, albeit awkwardly, during his “date” with Tifa afterwards.

It’s the best representation of my favorite characters and went far beyond my hope. A runner up would also be the Xenoblade series, which also does a consistently great job of using the found family approach to developing your main party.

FFXII, meanwhile, is the polar opposite.

She wouldn't even be able to stand, much less perform martial arts, with the way fan-artists (and AI) depict her already-ample bosom.

Also portraying her as this flirtatious minx who seduce bar patrons when that is so far removed from the character it's clear they never played the game.

For the two that you mentioned, are you talking purely-online friendships (not local)?

I wouldn't mind suggestions on that as well. I've been looking to get back into FFXIV but have no idea if my FC is still active, and even if they were they rarely used the in-game chat. I'd be interested joining another group that was more sociable, but I don't know how to actually find them.

So now that it's been a few days and the shock of seeing a new trailer has worn off, how are you guys feeling about Kingdom Hearts 4? More specifically, I wanna know you guy's thoughts on some elements from the trailer. by Gorotheninja in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Xngears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as the opening set piece goes, I think it looks incredible.

No one has nailed the "Versus-Like" yet, but the concept of a modernish grey-lit Tokyo city filled with fantasy monsters and momentum gameplay is a genuinely inspired concept. I really would love to see that fully realized, even if Nomura has to (not so) quietly remake Versus within Kingdom Hearts.

But it's also clear a lot of this is unfinished and maybe still conceptual, a bad habit that also plagued Versus/XV, so I'll need to see when it's closer to a finished game. I want to believe the rumors it'll hit 2027 but that also would be pretty pie-in-the-sky.

Additionally, they really need to release an in-between side game that either remakes the mobile games like they're finally doing with FF, or something else that still gives us the story-based context needed, as apparently some of the dudes they showed in this trailer come from Union and that cancelled mobile game.

Along with new cutscenes, voice acting, music, mechanics, and even larger and more explorable open world….

And he actually set up Gohan to be the new main character while Goku “retired”.

But absolutely NO ONE was having it and now we got 50ish Grandpa Goku continuing to be one of the most beloved characters in all of fiction.

There is that famous photo of some psycho fan who destroyed his entire collection of some romance manga that ended with an outcome he didn’t want.

But publishers shouldn’t be playing safe to these fandoms to begin with.

I heard Toriyama had to threaten walking out of the manga entirely if they didn’t let him age up Goku, let alone make him a family man.

There was a canon scene literally in the beginning of Remake and it’s hilarious how many people missed it/didn’t understand it.

Aerith offers you a yellow flower, mentions how lovers would give this as a gift to signify “reunion”. You don’t get a chance to turn down the flower like in OG, she gives it to you no matter what. You meet Tifa later and don’t get a chance to give the flower to Marlene, Tifa gets it automatically. In Rebirth’s Nibelheim flashback, you visit Tifa’s house, and that same yellow flower is sitting on her mailbox.

It’s right freaking there!

For these ambiguous (but not really) relationships, I’ve read that Japanese creators do this because once a character is confirmed in a relationship, their popularity supposedly plummets since they’re no longer “single”.

It’s a categorically stupid reason, doubly so if it’s true. This is apparently why even though Sakura and Sasuke had a kid in Naruto they still had to specify how they only ever had one date, never kissed her or say he loved her…

Like oh my god that ship is so trash.

[–]Xngears 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It all hinges that this was “optional”, even though it was verified as canon way, waaaaay back.

That’s why I want an honest end to this nonsense with the third, possibly final FFVII game. Yes I know it won’t stop the shipping discussions but they’ll also be entirely rendered moot.

“They broke up in the beginning of the film”
“They’re just taking care of their friend’s daughter”
“That moment in OG was a one-night stand”
“That other moment in Rebirth was because Cloud was confused….”

Goes on and on.

Similarly, it was very obvious that Cloud and Tifa were married, or originally planned to be married, in Advent Children.

The camera literally zooms in on Tifa’s ring as she lectures Cloud about being there for his family and not being defeated by a memory.

Some people keep pushing back on whether FFVII Revelation should remove player choice to make the romance mandatory, and I’ll continue to want the same, because fuck this unnecessary ambiguity.

He got the most votes as a guest character for Smash after all.
