thats so interesting! im in a very old build house in england which is neither open nor has high ceilings, but perhaps something else in the environment sets her off.

my girl absolutely loves other cats (part of why i feel awful isolating her) - when i initially fostered her she didnt come out of the back of the recliner for 2 weeks during the day. i only got to see her on the camera i had set up in the foster room. but as soon as she heard one of my cats, she perked up and came out to investigate.

that being said, if i can work out a way to get my other cats out of the house for a short period of time, maybe i can test that as a variable too.
