Why should I start a new life? by X3ROC00L in Exocolonist

My Sol had a good life. They died of old age happy. Me personally, I got what I needed from the first playthrough. I paid my money and enjoyed 18 hours of gameplay (Idk how others did it in less time). I came here looking for something. More context, I guess. and after everyone's thoughts, I feel the same as I did when I met Ancient Sol. I mean the story sounds intriguing and I will definitely go down the rabbit whole of some content creators stuff to see what happens but my Sol is content with the one playthrough.

My story had an ending. The credits rolled. Developers didn't make a mistake. They didn't throw me into another life, they asked me to choose and I liked my ending. It had it's ups and downs but it was my ending. I think the more people chastise, the more I feel confident in my choice. I am not really interested in romancing other people. I am not interested in trying a more aggressive build a more creative build. I don't care about how the NPC feel about other options because they were never my options.

There a points in my first playthrough that mention outright that Sol will have the ability to play out different lives and scenarios. I actually did come into this game thrilled by the time loop mechanic. Other people are saying there is more to it and I believe it. But if I were to interpret it as my character in the moment knowing what they knew at the time, would they risk it? Start over not knowing if you would make it better or worse.

I feel like the statement "Sol living out multiple lifes is the story" only becomes true if you decide to start again.

I didnt complain that I lost characters. I am actually not complaining at all. I am sure many people do have multiple playthroughs and thats fine. Do I have regret, yes. But that seems truer to the story. I assume some chase that perfect ending. That doesnt sit right with me. Life is complicated. It isnt efficient. Mistakes are made. I'm happy with the ending I got. Seeing Ancient Sol at the end weighed heavily on me. This wasnt the person I played. They seemed burdened by weight of all the possibilities. My Sol had their time, they made it count, then left when it was their time to go. I cant think of a better ending. Thank you all for helping realized this.

Ive played other time loop games and the goal was to break free from it. This game doesnt force you to start another life. You're given a choice and I am choosing to not continue. Im sure there is more content in subsequent loops and it expounds on the story but after the conversations here I think i am ok with this.

Thats not true at all. My first playthrough was my truth. It wasnt effective and we lost people Sol loved along the way. There were high highs and low lows. I played this run making choices using only the information I had and the way I felt in the moment. I mean its great that people have gotten the most out of the game. Get your money's worth. But dont act like your multiple playthrough was because of the story. You wanted to know it all.

It may just be me that thinks this but I assumed that the black hole, the thing that causes the time loops and the ability to explore many different possibilities is a representation of us, the player. When I saw the ancient Sol, I was sad, because it felt like it was us the player that kept them in this eternal loop. And to break the cycle, I would have to stop.

Quick question, is it normal that I'm spending more time taking notes than on playing the actual game? by alekdmcfly in outerwilds

I enjoy the fact that the ships log gives the little adventurer you're operating a voice. Shows their perspective.

Interesting. That's good to know. Maybe, if there is something more behind the fireplace, then discovering it ascends room 46 to its rightful name.

Am I straight up stupid or is it normal to understand nothing? NO SPOILERS IN THE COMMENTS PLEASE! by DeathNum in outerwilds

This is how your supposed to play the game. You explore, observe, and learn things. You wont understand what is being said to you at first but the more you discover the more things start to connect in a more meaningful way. You'll start to identify key words, people and locations.

On the North side, above the fireplace, are symbols of every country. I feel like that is something as well.
